Purpose:
The Computational Sciences and Engineering Division in the Computing and Computational Sciences Directorate at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) seek to hire several energetic and dynamic scientists with reputation in cutting edge cyber security research.More information about the Computational Sciences and Engineering Division in the Computing and Computational Sciences Directorate is available at: http://computing.ornl.gov/cse_home/index.shtml.
Major Duties/Responsibilities:
The successful candidates will be expected to participate on multiple R&D teams. The successful candidates will be responsible for developing technical solutions for information assurance, information operations and analysis related to national security topics such as intrusion detection & analysis, systems and vulnerabilities, network security, advanced analytic tools and data visualization techniques. The successful candidates will be responsible for developing algorithms and methods for detecting and preventing network attacks; and for protecting sensitive information and data from insider and external threats. Successful candidates must author peer reviewed papers, technical papers, reports and proposals for internal and external release as well as represents the organization by giving technical presentations in large public forums. Successful candidate must participate in National and International forums for the development of significant new concepts or novel approaches to Cyberspace and Cyber Security.
Qualifications Required:
Minimum Qualifications Required: Ph.D. in Computer Science, Mathematics, or a directly related field and 0-2 years of relevant experience is required. Candidates must have a proven record of research accomplishments, excellent communications skills, fiscal management experience, and a strong desire to work in a team environment. The successful candidates should be experienced in interpreting, reporting, and presenting research concepts and results to national audiences at all levels. The successful candidates must have a hands-on background and experience in network infrastructure and current and emerging cyber security technologies. Candidates must have knowledge of network architectures, hardware and operating systems. Practical experience in modeling and simulation is a plus. The successful candidates must have a demonstrated track record of working with customers independently or in teams to develop requirements, proposals, conduct research, and produce working prototypes for demonstration. Successful candidates must have a demonstrated ability for positive and interactive customer interface. It is required of this position the ability to obtain and maintain a clearance from the Department of Energy, which requires US Citizenship. Assuch, this position is a Workplace Substance Abuse program (WSAP) testing designed position which requires passing a pre-placement drug test and participation in an ongoing random drug testing program in which employees are subject to being randomly selected for testing. The occupant of this position will also be subject to an ongoing requirement to report to ORNL any drug-related arrest or conviction or receipt of a positive drug test result. Preferred Qualifications: Ph.D. in Computer Science, Mathematics, or a directly related field and a minimum of 2-5 years of relevant experience is preferred. Project management experience is preferred, along with familiarity with federal funding procedures, regulations, policies and practices. A background in national security related issues is a plus.
