Purpose: The National Center for Computational Sciences (NCCS) in the Computing and Computational Sciences Directorate at Oak Ridge National Laboratory is seeking a highly qualified individual to play a key role in support and leadership of HPC systems operated by the center. This team has direct responsibility for installing and maintaining some of the worlds leading computers. These systems have included two Top500 number one systems. Major Duties/Responsibilities: Installing, configuring, and maintaining computer system software Diagnosing system operational problems quickly and effectively Coordinating with vendors to resolve hardware and software problems Recommending, planning, and coordinating hardware and software changes with customer participation using change management processes Porting and writing system management tools Providing reliable and efficient backups/restores for all managed systems Setting up and maintaining host and network based security of the NCCS resources Documenting system administration procedures for routine and complex tasks Participating in a 24-hour, 7-day on-call support rotation and off-hours maintenance windowsThe position is also responsible for system implementation/integration into the NCCS environment and systems performance analysis. Qualifications Required: Minimum Qualifications Required:The successful candidate will have a Bachelors Degree in Computer Science or closely related field with 2-4 years of experience. A strong working knowledge of Unix system fundamentals is required. Other requirements for the position include: Extensive experience managing Unix/Linux operating systems in a large-scale system environment Shell scripting experience Solid understanding of networked computing environment concepts Strong leadership skills Formal change management experience It is required of this position the ability to obtain and maintain a clearance from the Department of Energy.Preferred Qualifications: Bachelors Degree in computer science or closely related field and 5-7 years of technical experience. Experience with the Cray X-series platform Experience with high-performance computers and associated high-performance networks Experience with Lustre file systems Experience with batch schedulers (particularly PBS or MOAB) C-Programming and porting experience Experience installing and maintaining clustered environments, including automated installation methods Strong interpersonal and communication skills Ability to work as a team player Proactive and solution-oriented problem solver Prior project and/or team leadership experienceSpecial Requirement:It is required of this position the ability to obtain and maintain a clearance from the Department of Energy. As such, this position is a Workplace Substance Abuse program (WSAP) testing designed position which requires passing a pre-placement drug test and participation in an ongoing random drug testing program in which employees are subject to being randomly selected for testing. The occupant of this position willalso be subject to an ongoing requirement to report to ORNL any drug-related arrest or conviction or receipt of a positive drug test result.
