Purpose:
The National Center for Computational Sciences (NCCS) at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) is seeking a postdoctoral candidate in the area of multicore technologies for High-performance Computing (HPC) systems. The explosion in many-core compute nodes in extreme-scale systems presents a unique opportunity and challenge in how to exploit them effectively for leadership scientific applications. This postdoc position is in the Technology Integration (Techint) Group at ORNLs National Center for Computational Sciences (NCCS).


Major Duties/Responsibilities:
The candidate will actively participate in the design and development of software tools, runtime environments, and algorithms to address the challenges in the effective use of many-core nodes, and an evaluation of new and emerging architectures to support the scientific discovery process at the NCCS.


Qualifications Required:
Minimum Qualifications Required:A PHD in Computer Science or closely related field is required. Primary qualifications for this position include, but are not limited to, the following: Multicore architectures Experience with OpenMP Experience with MPI (the message passing interface) Experience with C or C++ programming languages A deep understanding of computer architecture concepts, and processor cache. Occasional travel required. Preferred Qualifications:Other preferred qualifications for this position include, but are not limited to, the following: Experience with multi-threaded programming using pthreads Experience using shared memory Experience with GPUs and ARM processors In-depth systems programming experience by way of OS kernel development Ability to work in uncharted territory and drive an idea from conception to implementation. Good oral and written communication skills.Applicants cannot have received the most recent degree more than five years prior to the date of application and must complete all degree requirements before starting their appointment.
