Purpose: The Eugene P. Wigner Fellowship was established in 1975 to honor Eugene Wigner, Nobel Laureate and the first Director of Research and Development at ORNL. The Wigner Fellowship provides an opportunity for outstanding early career life, physical, computational, and social scientists and engineers to select and pursue fundamental or applied research in areas of their interest. Since 1975, ORNL has attracted more than 80 dynamic young scientists through this two year fellowship, which offers a unique early career opportunity at the Department of Energys largest and most diverse science and energy laboratory. ORNLs scientific programs focus on materials, neutron science, energy, high-performance computing, systems biology and national security. Major Duties/Responsibilities: The Wigner Fellowship Program provides the opportunity for recent doctoral degree recipients of exceptional ability, who show clear and definite promise of becoming outstanding leaders in scientific research and development, to: pursue research programs within their areas of interest and expertise; collaborate with Laboratory R&D staff and distinguished scientists; and have access to Laboratory expertise, facilities, and programs Qualifications Required: The successful candidate must be exceedingly well qualified in his or her field of expertise. The candidate must have completed the Ph.D. before his or her agreed upon start date. The candidate should be no more than three years beyond completion of the doctorate. The selected candidate should not have previously served more than one postdoctoral appointment.In order to complete the fellowship application, those interested must submit the following: PhD transcript, your statement of proposed research, and three letters of recommendations along with an evaluation form which will be sent to you via email once you apply (Do not use references that you have known less than one year).
