Purpose:
The National Center for Computational Sciences (NCCS) at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) is seeking a postdoctoral candidate in areas of data and storage technologies for High-performance Computing (HPC) systems. The successful candidate will work with a team at Oak Ridge National Laboratory to conduct research and develop software on existing and emerging HPC data and storage technologies.This postdoctoral position is in the Technology Integration Group at ORNLs National Center for Computational Sciences (NCCS).
MajorDuties/Responsibilities:
The candidate will actively conduct research on HPC file and storage systems and participate in the design and development of I/O software tools and libraries, I/O benchmarks, and I/O algorithms to address the I/O challenges in HPC file and storage systems and existing emerging technologies such as Lustre, Ceph, Hadoop, non-volatile memory devices, to support the scientific discovery process at the NCCS.
Qualifications Required:
Minimum Qualifications Required:A PhD in Computer Engineering or Science or closely related field is required. Experience with C or C++ programming languages Experience with Shell and Perl or Python programmingTechnical comprehension of networking, and system software for HPC platformsA deep understanding of computer and storage architecture conceptsCollaborative skills, including the ability to work well with othersExcellent verbal and written communication skillsPreferred Qualifications:Considerable expertise in parallel programming, multi-core systems, data flow analysis, and scientific application codesConsiderable expertise in creating high-quality softwareUnderstanding in one or more of scalable parallel file systems, such as Lustre, Ceph, GPFS, PVFSUnderstanding in I/O middleware in HPC platformsExpertise in I/O performance evaluation and benchmarking techniques, tools, and methodology Expertise in storage area networkingKnowledge of and familiarity with NoSQL databases, Key-Value stores, Map-Reduce and scalable data analysis techniquesAdditional Information:Applicants cannot have received the most recent degree more than five years prior to the date of application and must complete all degree requirements before starting their appointment. Certain exceptions may be considered.
