This group utilizes the appropriate codes to both analyze and model these concepts and systems with particular emphasis on safety, controls, and operations. This group supports the Department of Energy (DOE) in developing future reactor technology for both large and small advanced reactors, the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) in the safety assessment of new and currently operating nuclear power plants, and the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) in developing nuclear power systems for exploration of the outer planets and surface power applications. The ARSS group collaborates with several of the NASA centers and other DOE laboratories and provides technical support for the principal research and regulatory offices within the NRC as well as international organizations such as the IAEA and OECD Nuclear Energy Agency.
