Purpose
The National Institute for Computational Science from the University of Tennessee located at Oak Ridge National Laboratory is seeking a High Performance I/O Systems Technologist to support, investigate and evaluate new technologies and develop novel techniques to meet the I/O demands of supercomputers, site and wide area file systems and other key systems at the NICS.
Major Duties/Responsibilities
The position reports to the HPC Operations/Technology Integration Group Leader and works to develop a long-term strategy for I/O infrastructure and develop techniques to address the I/O demands of current and future high performance computing systems. The successful candidate must be a highly motivated self-starter with initiative and consistent follow-through, the ability to think strategically and problem solve, and the ability to work in an extremely fast-paced team environment. Furthermore, the candidate should have a broad knowledge of current and emerging storage systems, file systems and other I/O technologies employed in HPC Centers.
Qualifications Required
Basic requirements for the position include a BS in Computer Science or other closely related discipline and/or equivalent training and experience.
Primary qualifications for this position include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Demonstrated research in the area of high performance I/O
- Knowledge of high-performance file systems
- Knowledge of High-Performance interconnects
- Knowledge of High-Performance I/O middleware libraries
- Experience in systems or middleware programming
Other desirable operational knowledge and experience includes:
- Experience with simulation of I/O systems
- Experience with availability and fault tolerance aspects of file systems
- Experience in performance optimization of large-scale I/O systems
- Experience with wide area parallel file systems
