Purpose:
The Building Equipment Research Group within the Building Technologies Research and Integration Center (BTRIC) in the Energy and Transportation Science Division (ETSD) at ORNL is seeking applicants capable of assisting principal investigators on projects as part of an expanding program. This position will be focused on research and technical assistance related to research and development of new materials, components and systems technologies for energy efficiency in buildings. Candidates will have the opportunity to work with experienced staff in this area. This Center is a recognized focal point for addressing technical problems confronting the U.S. buildings industry.Candidates will have the opportunity to work with experienced staff and utilize BTRICs wealth of experimental facilities, which have been designated as DOE National User Facilities. This Center is a recognized focal point for addressing technical problems confronting the U.S. buildings industry, whether residential or commercial.
Major Duties/Responsibilities:
The selected candidate(s) will work with other researchers on projects, collaborate with research staff and partner organizations on future research initiatives, assist senior managers on research projects, network with related organizations, and assist in preparing proposals and present research results to sponsors, peer reviewers, and others.
Qualifications Required:
A B.S. or M.S. in mechanical or electrical engineering, with a minimum of 1-4 years of relevant professional experience is required. Proficiency with the use of Excel in engineering data reduction and analysis is essential. Experience with mechanical engineering modeling and analysis tools is highly desirable. Knowledge of building science, experimental testing, heating and cooling technologies, and mechanical systems and controls is desired. Additional requirements include: Oral presentations skills to make presentations to internal staff, sponsors and other visitors Effective writing skills for preparing reports and publications Strong interpersonal and team/partnership building skillsNo security clearance is required for this position. Some travel is required.
