Purpose: The Building Equipment Research Group within the Building Technologies Research and Integration Center (BTRIC) in the Energy and Transportation Science Division (ETSD) at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) is seeking applicants capable of providing technical support on projects as part of an expanding program. This position will focus on research and development of new materials, components and systems technologies to improve energy efficiency in buildings. Candidates will have the opportunity to work with experienced staff in this area. This Center is a recognized focal point for addressing technical problems confronting the U.S. buildings industry. Candidates will have the opportunity to work with experienced staff and utilize BTRICs wealth of experimental facilities, which have been designated as DOE National User Facilities. Major Duties/Responsibilities: The selected candidate(s) will provide technical support, such as setting up experiments, programming data acquisition systems, monitoring equipment, coordinating craft support, and analyzing data. In addition, job responsibilities include assisting in developing/modifying Research Safety Summaries for all projects, and tracking calibration of all instrumentation and assisting in quality control for group as related to experimentation and analysis of data. Qualifications Required: Applicants are expected to have an Associates degree with a minimum of 7 to 12 years of professional experience. Applicants are expected to have a demonstrated knowledge of building equipment systems and instrumentation. Familiarity with numerical calculation and statistical data analysis techniques are essential. Knowledge of mechanical systems and controls is required. Applicants should have experience working with or supervising maintenance staff. Calibration and verification of instrumentation and controls is essential. Applicants should be competent in quality control practices and have the ability to work both independently and in a team environment with a minimum of supervision. Working knowledge of mechanical and electrical safety practices. No security clearance is required for this position. Travel is required.
