Purpose:
The Research Accelerator Division at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory is seeking to hire an Electrician.
Major Duties/Responsibilities:
In this role the incumbent will, under limited supervision, perform all electrical functions as needed including troubleshooting, repairing and installing automated equipment. Electricians must be capableof diagnostics and repair of electrical systems.Could be assigned to shift work or shift relief and/or other assignments as directed by management.
Qualifications Required:
Job requires a minimum of five years experience and a journeyman-level electrical license (preferred) or an equivalent combination of education and relevant electrical experience. Industrial experience will be a plus. Experience required but not limited to; diagnose malfunctioning apparatus such as printed circuit boards, transformers, meters, lighting fixtures and replace damaged or broken wire and cables. Electricians are also responsible for troubleshooting, repairing, maintaining, replacing and installing automated equipment including: electrical/electronic systems, circuits and equipment controls, sensors, valves, electrical motor drive controls, PLC installation, diagnostics and repair using diagnostic equipment motors and actuators with an understanding of high and medium voltage grids. Electricians must be capable of: conduit bending/construction, selecting appropriate materials to complete a job and using voltage and ampere measuring devices. Strong troubleshooting skills down to board level and experience installing and repairing electrical systems, apparatus, electrical and electronic components of industrial machinery and equipment will be required.Obtaining and maintaining special certifications/qualifications required and provided by the company for respirator wearer and mobile equipment operator.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB1. Perform tasks that involve physical requirements, including, but not limited to: standing, walking, lifting (up to 100 pounds), carrying (up to 75 pounds), pushing and pulling (up to 125 pounds), climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, twisting, crawling, reaching (high, low, level), finger movement, sense of touch, speaking clearly, hearing conversation, hearing with high acuity and seeing near and far with depth perception and color vision. 2.Wear applicable protective equipment, including, but not limited to: eyes, hearing, head, arms, hands, fingers, full body and skin protection.3. Work in varied working conditions, including, but not limited to: extreme cold and heat, frequent temperature changes, high humidity and dampness, very dry, confined spaces, cramped quarters, heights, noise over 80 dB, vibration, mechanical hazards, moving objects, exposure to burns, operate vehicle on company property and on the high way, working alone, working with people and working with solvents.
