Purpose:
Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) is the largest US Department of Energy science and energy laboratory, conducting basic and applied research to deliver transformative solutions to compelling problems in energy and security. Our diverse capabilities span a broad range of scientific and engineering disciplines, enabling the Laboratory to explore fundamental science challenges and to carry out the research needed to accelerate the delivery of solutions to the marketplace. The Plant Systems Biology group within the Biosciences Division at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) seeks up to four postdoctoral researchers with experience in plant molecular biology, molecular genetics and biochemistry. You will join a multi-disciplinary team of investigators undertaking broad, integrated approaches to enhance productivity and sustainability of bioenergy crops. These projects are funded by the U.S. Department of Energy. The projects are focused to the following research areas: Molecular mechanisms and regulation of cell wall biosynthesisMolecular mechanisms of plant-microbe interactions Imaging, characterization and modeling of plant growth and stress responses. Our research approach involves:Gene expression analysis (e.g., RNAseq)Functional genomics Biochemical and structural analysis (e.g., imaging) of plant growth and physiological responsesProtein-protein interactions (e.g., protein expression, Y2H, BiFC, pull-down)DNA-protein interactions (e.g., ChIP)Bioinformatics (e.g., co-expression and network analyses)


Major Duties/Responsibilities:
Project responsibilities and duties include:Collection and analysis of data in keeping with project scheduling, Preparation of conference presentations, project reports and peer-reviewed manuscripts (Journal impact factor of 3.5 or greater).Participation in general laboratory maintenance and safety programs. Maintenance of accurate record-keeping of research and accounting of relevant lab expenses. Self-assessment of experimental research skill set and proactive identification areas for further training.


Qualifications Required:
A Ph.D. in plant molecular biology, genetics, biochemistry, plant biology, chemical engineering or related fields is required. A proven record of publishing in peer-reviewed journals is required. Excellent oral and written communication skills and ability to work in a team are required. Applicant cannot have received the PhD degree more than five years prior to the date of application and must complete all degree requirements before starting their appointment.This position is a full-time assignment for 24 months, contingent on successful performance and continued funding.More information about the Plant Systems Biology group is available at: http://www.esd.ornl.gov/PGG.
