Purpose:
Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) is the largest US Department of Energy science and energy laboratory, conducting basic and applied research to deliver transformative solutions to compelling problems in energy and security. Our diverse capabilities span a broad range of scientific and engineering disciplines, enabling the Laboratory to explore fundamental science challenges and to carry out the research needed to accelerate the delivery of solutions to the marketplace.We are seeking a Program Director responsible for leading all aspects of ORNLs Building Technologies Program. In this position you will report to Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy Programs Director within the Energy and Environmental Sciences Directorate. You will work in close coordination with ORNL Division Directors, Group Leaders and technical staff. You will be responsible for developing strategy, proposing work and executing buildings-related R&D, demonstration, and deployment programs.


Major Duties/Responsibilities:
Lead strategic and business planning, business development and relationship management, and program execution for building technologies at ORNL, including work sponsored by the Department of Energy Building Technologies Office (BTO), Federal Energy Management Program(FEMP), and Weatherization and Inter-Governmental Programs (WIPO) as well as buildings-related work sponsored by others through Strategic Partnership Programs, User Agreements and Cooperative Research and Development Agreements.Handle the buildings program office budget.Organize and lead team by designating and leading sub-program managers, the buildings funding opportunity announcement (FOA) support team, and the BTO financial and milestone control team.Lead FOA responses in the buildings space.Direct and lead the development of the Annual Operating Plans.Ensure sponsor technical milestones/quality and financial management expectations are met or exceeded, including mid-year and end-of-year reviews as prescribed by the sponsors.Compile quarterly accomplishments for the Performance Evaluation and Management Process (PEMP) leading to ORNL Annual Report.Provide program oversight to maintain the Building Technologies Research and Integration Center as an ORNL User Facility.Supervise, encourage and mentor program staff. Mentor PIs and Group leaders to encourage career development, safe work environment, and maximum productivity.Ensure compliance with environmental, safety, health and quality program requirementsConduct active research in the area of building technologies


Qualifications Required:
Advanced degree in a scientific, engineering, or business discipline and a minimum of ten years of relevant experience. Significant experience in management of research, development, demonstration and deployment activities, including assembly and direction of multi-disciplinary teams. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Demonstrated leadership ability.Previous work experience with DOE sponsors, including the Building Technologies Office, Federal Energy Management Program and Weatherization and Intergovernmental Programs Office is highly desired.ORNL is an equal opportunity employer.
