The Sensors & Embedded Systems Research (SESR) Group in the Electrical and Electronics Systems Research (EESR) Division at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) develops sensors, embedded systems and microelectronics for measurement and controls applications in order to advance science, address energy challenges, and improve national security. If you have expertise in the areas of control system theory and application to support research in advanced manufacturing, power systems, power electronics, distributed energy generation, IoT, grid modernization, nuclear energy, and transportation systems, we invite you to join our team of staff researchers and postdocs.You should have demonstrated experience in:1. the development of new control theory;2. researching control solutions for complex multidisciplinary systems;3. experimental deployment and testing of advanced control theory.You will have the opportunity to perform theoretical research that expands the state-of-the-art control theory and apply the current state-of-the-art control theory to diverse technical application areas. You will publish the results of your research in recognized journals.

Major Duties/Responsibilities:
Your primary responsibilities will involve control theory research & development in support of ORNL/DOEs mission to advance science and energy applications. Conduct groundbreaking research in advanced control theory and application with a focus on manufacturing, electric grid, transportation, building automation, and IoT applications Present and report research results in high-impact peer reviewed journals, conferences and program reviews Work with other ORNL controls researchers to develop technical strategies for future research that aligns with the controls capabilities within the laboratoryOther responsibilities include: Fusion of non-continuous measurements into a feedback control system for high-speed process control Develop distributed control strategies for large-scale systems, and collaboration with colleagues at ORNL to craft technical research strategies to solve problems proposed by the Department of Energy (DOE) and industrial partners

Qualifications Required:
You will possess a PhD in Physics, Electrical Engineering or related discipline. Experience with the development of control algorithms is preferred.Applicants cannot have received the most recent degree more than five years prior to the date of application and must complete all degree requirements before starting their appointment.Appointments will initially be for 24 months with a possibility of an extension of up to 12 months.
