Job Location: Oak Ridge, TN

We are seeking a Postdoctoral Research Associate with genome editing experience to support our Mass Spectrometry and Laser Spectroscopy Group. As part of our research team, you will help us improve our understanding of the factors affecting CRISPR/Cas targeting, specificity, and efficiency. In this role, you will also design experiments and assist in the development of novel approaches to understand the regulatory differences imposed upon engineered CRISPR/Cas gene-editing across bacteria, single-celled, and multicellular eukaryotic organisms. Additionally, you will engage with collaborators from the Computational Biology group at ORNL to integrate and analyze big data (e.g., multi-omic analyses) to facilitate iterative biodesign applications. You will also be actively involved in the training and co-supervision of students.This position resides in the Chemical Sciences Division (CSD), Physical Sciences Directorate (PSD) at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) and will extensively collaborate with researchers in ORNLs Biosciences Division (BSD).

Major Duties/Responsibilities:
Conduct independent research using CRISPR/Cas editing approaches Present and report research results and publish scientific results in peer-reviewed journals in a timely manner Ensure compliance with environment, safety, health and quality program requirements Maintain strong dedication to the implementation and perpetuation of values and ethics

Qualifications Required:
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS: A PhD in Molecular Biology or a related discipline completed within the last five years A background in CRISPR/Cas engineering and cell culture A minimum of one first author publicationPREFFERED QUALIFICATIONS: Experience working in multiple host systems is advantageous Experience in biosystems design is highly desirable and basic experience with combining experimental data with computational models for iterative biodesign An excellent record of productive and creative research as proven by publications in peer-reviewed journals Excellent written and oral communication skills and the ability to communicate in English to an international scientific audience Motivated self-starter with the ability to work independently and to participate creatively in collaborative and frequently interacting teams of researchers Ability to function well in a fast-paced research environment, set priorities to accomplish multiple tasks within deadlines, and adapt to ever changing needsOTHER INFORMATION:Applicants cannot have received their Ph.D. more than five years prior to the date of application and must complete all degree requirements before starting their appointment. The appointment length will be up to 24 months with the potential for extension.
