The Computational Data Analytics Group (CDA) at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) has openings for postdoctoral research associates in the field of data mining and machine learning on high performance computing platforms. The Computational Data Analytics Group conducts innovative basic and applied computer science research on challenging problems of national interest. Our main research area is to develop novel analysis methods for very large, real world, and data sets. Our research focuses on large-scale data analytics and architectures, specifically machine learning, deep learning, neuromorphic computing, text analytics, graph analytics, visual analytics, and publication mining. Our group is made up of a broad range of data scientists developing new analytics methods and tools to quickly find value in very large and complex data sets.
In this role, you will collaborate with CDA scientists in a wide variety of data analytics and architecture research. You will be expected to develop novel basic and applied data analytics methods, tools, and architectures that can be used to analyzing very large volumes of text, image and signal processing. These methods will require a very strong background in machine learning, statistical analysis, and computer science. You will also be expected to publish your work in top conferences and journals, collaborate with experts in the field, and work with a variety of high performance computing platforms and machine learning software packages.
Basic Qualifications Required: Ph.D. in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or closely related field and an outstanding publication track record is required. Experience is needed in using machine packages such as scikit-learn, mllib-spark, weka, matlab and deep learning packages like tensorflow, torch, caffe on very large scale data in order of few tera bytes. Demonstrated programming ability, and knowledge of Java, Python, C/C++ or other commonly used language. Preferred Qualifications: Capable of producing significant research results, publications, and funding proposals. Experience with very large data sets, high performance computing, and real world data. Experience in signal and image processing. Demonstrated good academic standing, and the ability to conduct independent research. Ability to communicate effectively (both verbal and written). Flexibility with regard to the research assignments. Ability to collaborate with scientists, engineers, and sponsors.Additional Information:Applicants cannot have received their Ph.D. more than five years prior to the date of application and must complete all degree requirements before starting their appointment. The appointment length will be for up to 24 months with the potential for extension. Initial appointments and extensions are subject to performance and the availability of funding.
