Job Location: Oak Ridge, TN

We are seeking a Postdoctoral Research Associate with experience in condensed-matter physics to advance our understanding of unconventional superconductivity and magnetism in correlated quantum materials. This position resides in the Correlated Electron Materials Group, Materials Science and Technology Division (MSTD), within the Physical Sciences Directorate (PSD) at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL).OVERVIEW: The scientific goal of the project is to understand how local chemical, electronic, and spin competitions lead to global correlated properties in oxides and pnictides. As a postdoc, you will have the opportunity to focus on bulk characterization of single crystals using a variety of measurements such as magnetization, resistance, heat capacity, Hall effect, Seebeck and thermal conductivity, and also collaborate with researchers with expertise in theory and modeling, neutrons, microscopy, and spectroscopy. This project will enhance our understanding of superconducting materials by using multiple length scale (cm to nm) characterization of them using diverse techniques, and draw on structure-property relations.

Major Duties/Responsibilities:
Physical property characterization of single crystals using a variety of temperature-dependent characterization techniques such as magnetization, resistance, heat capacity, Hall effect, Seebeck and thermal conductivity Measurements of resistance and magnetization of single crystals under applied pressures Analyses of quantum materials using X-ray and neutron scattering techniquesOther responsibilities: Presenting and reporting research results and publishing scientific results in peer-reviewed journals in a timely manner Ensuring compliance with environment, safety, health, and quality program requirements Maintaining strong commitment to the implementation and perpetuation of values and ethics
