Salary: Salary: $17.50/hour
Job Description;
The Oshkosh Area School District Board of Education is seeking applicants for the following temporary paraprofessional position for the remainder of the 2009-2010 school year.

1.0 FTE – Hearing Impaired Interpreter – Elementary School

Reports to:
Building Principal

QUALIFICATIONS
1. Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction License #884 required and/or Associates Degree or Bachelors Degree in Interpreting.
2. Experience working with students in an educational setting preferred.
3. Demonstrated ability to interact tactfully, effectively, and courteously with students, parents, staff, and others encountered on the job.
4. Ability to follow written and verbal directions as provided by teachers and administrators.
5. Ability to staff the position for the scheduled workday.
6. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the board may find appropriate and acceptable.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
1. Interpret/transliterate classroom lectures, conversations, films, videotapes, slides, etc. for partial duties and teacher assistant for remainder of the work day.
2. Adjust mode and level of communication to meet the needs of the student(s).
3. Ability to expressively and receptively understand various modes of signed communication (this may include American Sign Language, Contact Language (PSE), Manually Coded English,  and/or Oral Interpreting).
4. Confer with mainstream classroom teachers and D/HH teachers about any problems or difficulties encountered.
5. Serve as a liaison to promote good public relations between D/HH students, hearing students, and staff.
6. Tutor students individually or in small groups to meet student(s) needs.
7. Participate in educational team activities. These activities may include team meetings, Individualized Educational Program (IEP) conferences, and/or informal staffings.
8. Input from the interpreter may involve information regarding communication strategies and progress related to the child’s use of the interpreter.
7. Maintain professional standards as specified in the Code of Ethics of the National Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf.

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Participate in team processes for continuous improvement.
