POSITION SUMMARY:
The Associate Engineer—Electrical position is part of a 7 person Engineering team working in the corporate New Product Development (NPD) center. The primary role of the position is to design new, modified, or improved electrical schematics, electrical components, and electrical harnesses to support low volume concept and prototype specialty products for commercial and military markets. The ideal candidate will have relevant design experience with heavy truck, agriculture, automotive, or heavy construction product design projects. Project durations range from a few hours to several months and typically have tight schedule constraints.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Design new, modified, or improved electrical schematics, electrical components, and electrical harnesses using E3.series and CATIA V5 software.
2. Support mechanical design team by designing new, modified, or improved mechanical chassis components as necessary to support project scope. Chassis related design responsibilities will include frame, axles, suspension, propshafts, wheels, tires, and steering systems.
3. Prepare vehicle layouts and component part drawings with supporting calculations, i.e., weight distribution, etc.
4. Select parts and/or design components for cost and quality-conscious design.
5. Follow project on the assembly floor and through the prototype build.
6. Generate bills of material and assembly documentation as required by project.
7. Consult with suppliers, customers, Engineering, Purchasing, Manufacturing, Assembly, Service, Testing, Quality Control, and Marketing to meet project needs.
8. Adhere to strict project schedules.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Associate's Degree or equivalent training in mechanical/electrical design and computer-aided drawing.
2. 5+ years related electrical design experience.
3. 2-5 years experience designing mobile equipment electrical schematics and harnesses.
4. 5+ years of experience working with 3D parametric CAD software (CATIA V5, Pro/E, Solidworks, or Unigraphics)
5. 5+ years of experience working with electrical schematic design and documentation software (E3, CATIA, Pro/E, Zuken, Mentorgraphics, or Autocad)
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Experience with CATIA V5 Electrical workbench.
2. Experience with CATIA V5 assembly and part design workbenches.
3. Experience with Zuken E3.series electrical system design and documentation software.
4. Experience working with vehicle diagnostic software to support troubleshooting issues during prototype builds.
