Director of Supply Chain and Strategic Planning

Job Description:
The duties for this exciting position include managing and directing several of the following supply chain activities: production planning, material procurement, inventory control, vendor selection and retention, expediting, analyzing and distribution.
Major Responsibilities:
1. Establishes a philosophy of understanding suppliers and customers needs and capabilities in order to secure a reliable supply of goods and service based on the best combination of delivery, quality and cost.
2. Ensures all team members have a clear understanding of Companies objectives and how they relate to their own job and the company's success.
3. Determines, plans and take appropriate action to manage inventory dollars and inventory turns.
4. Ongoing mentoring of direct reports and indirect inventory control personnel as needed.
5. Prepares/presents reports on performance as requested by VP of Operations.
6. Monitors cost of purchased items and develop strategic cost saving plans.
7. Develops strategic sourcing approach to make versus buy.
8. Rationalizes the current supply base in order to maximize purchasing leverage.
9. Responsible for the maintenance of ISO-related documentation relevant to the procurement function.
10. Develops "Kanban" to reduce inventory and eliminate shortages.
11. Implements effective metrics to measure PPV, inventory turns and suppliers score card.
12. Works with VP to develop and implement plans for operational infrastructure of systems, processes, and personnel designed to accommodate rapid growth objectives.
Experience:
Skills:
Interfaces with Sales, Engineering and Manufacturing in order to understand and meet their requirements with regard to new program launches.
Establishes and maintain a meaningful supplier performance reporting mechanism consistent with ISO requirements.
Implements leading edge supply chain methods including consignment inventory and VMI programs, amortized tooling, year-over-year cost downs, lean supply chain, e-procurement, etc.
Understands the key processes of primary suppliers (ie: equipment, technology, commodities)
Develops the skills and abilities of supplier managers and buyers.
Significant understanding of business law, legal contracts, effective contract negotiation and closure, and financial terminology (including cash flow, working capital, etc.)
Strong organizational and PC skills.
Experience with Oracle software version 11i E-Business suite.

Attendance Requirements:
Minimum 9 hours/day with occasional evening business meetings/functions.
35-50 travel and overtime are required.
Additional Responsibilities:
Ability and willingness to travel frequently, including internationally.
Ongoing mentoring of direct reports.
Assume other activities and responsibilities as directed.
Conducts annual performance evaluations for supplier managers and buyers.
Consults with the Executive Team on matters related to supply chain management.
Coaches, develops and directs staff consistent with company philosophies.
Develops and maintains effective, professional relationships with suppliers.
Provides support to resolve Supplier Corrective Actions
As delegated by VP of Operations to support business objectives.
Tasks: (on-going duties)
Stay abreast of the marketplace and industry via business journals, newspapers, world-wide web, etc.
Ensure that duties, responsibilities, and authority and accountability of all direct subordinates are defined and understood.
Qualifications:
Education: Bachelors degree in Business Administration, Operations or Production & Inventory Management a must. APICS certification is highly desired as are certification in MRP and Production/Inventory Management. Graduate degree preferred.
10 years experience in supply chain management, process improvement, re-engineering years in manufacturing environment.
4+ years people management experience.
Experience in infrastructure process development and management.
Experience in execution/implementation of strategic change and technology solutions.
Experience with Pull system and Kanban.
Precise responsibility supervising purchasing with annual expenditures not less than $10 million.
