Duties:
Working under direction of the Senior Estimator or Estimating Manager, the Estimator analyzes and evaluates bid packages to determine scope. The Estimator is responsible for producing innovative, competitive and complete estimates and for assembling miscellaneous data to respond to bid criteria in a timely and professional manner.
1. Support the company's Core Values.
2. Analyzes bid documents and is familiar with plans, specifications addenda, soil boring data, etc. that apply to the project.
3. Assists in the assembling of peripheral data required by a scope of work or a bid package such as EEO material, labor relations information, organization charts, resumes, financial data, etc. as directed.
4. Performs accurate quantity take off and enters quantities into the estimating system.
5. Responsible for the solicitation of assigned scopes of work to ensure we have adequate coverage (minimum of three bids per scope as a goal).
6. Makes site investigations and evaluates weather, soils, supplier, and labor conditions affecting the bids as assigned or as a part of estimate area responsibility.
7. Plans methods of construction and determines personnel and equipment needs and work item durations to assist in the preparation of the overall construction schedule necessary to build the project.
8. Participate in the pricing of jobs while learning basic pricing with the assistance of the Senior Estimator.
9. Evaluate subcontractor and supplier bids for scope comparison to determine the lowest responsive bidder on bid day.
10. Finds or creates ideas and methods that will provide a better value for the customer.
11. Performs such other duties as assigned.
Desirable Qualifications:
* Six years practical construction experience or a Civil Engineering, Construction Engineering or Construction Management degree from an accredited institution and two years of construction experience as an Office Engineer assigned to Estimating.
* Must be able to read and interpret plans, specifications, and other bid documents.
* Should have excellent math background and good written and oral communications skills.
* Capable of working under pressure to meet deadlines.
* Computer literate.
