Staff Accountant

Job Summary
Completes various general accounting functions as required by the company, including Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, and/or General Ledger requirements.

Essential Functions, Duties, and Responsibilities
This position may involve knowledge of confidential information. Such information will be handled with the utmost discretion.
Primary Role – Accounts Receivable (A/R) Responsibilities
1. Applies cash receipts and ties detail to control cash register report. All cash receipts during the week have to be applied by the end of Friday that week.
2. Works with Customer Service on A/R issues.
3. Researches and solves payment discrepancies.
4. Performs cash collection for delinquent accounts.
5. Recommends adjustments to accounts as needed.
6. Prepares required deposits.
Other Duties
1. Assists in the preparation of balance sheets, profit and loss statements and other financial reports as required and requested by management.
2. Analyzes trends, costs, revenues, financial commitments, and obligations incurred to predict future revenues and expenses.
3. Completes all requirements for the month-end process.
4. Processes month-end balancing and journal entries as required.
5. Handles and reconciles general ledger data as required by company procedures.
6. Prepares monthly standard reports as required by company procedures and at management’s request.
7. Prepares any required tax statements and/or returns.
8. Acts as the back-up for the accounts payable function.
9. Completes special projects and requests from the Accounting Manager, Controller or other management.
10. Answers questions and other requests from internal customers and departments.
11. Reports organization's finances to management, and offers suggestions about resource utilization, tax strategies, and assumptions underlying budget forecasts.

1. Strong general accounting skills and knowledge in accounts payable, accounts receivable and general ledger.
2. Strong oral and written communication skills. Communicate effectively with employees and customers.

4. Ability to effectively present information and respond quickly to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
5. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
6. Ability to perform basic and more complicated mathematic fundamentals – add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
7. Ability to use PC computers and have command of Microsoft software – Word and Excel, PowerPoint, and others as needed – including accounting systems. Use of company computer systems (as trained).
8. Positive customer service and ability to work with others in a team setting.
9. Understanding of the inner workings of the company, and can answer questions asked by internal and external customers.
10. Ability to apply logic in problem solving for both internal and external customers.
11. Strong motivation and self-starting initiative is required.

Education and Experience
1. Bachelor’s degree in business-related field is preferred.
2. Minimum two (2) years of experience in accounting – A/P, A/R and/or General Ledger is preferred.
3. Strong command of computer skills is required:
a. All Microsoft Office software used by the company.
b. Purchasing/MRP systems.
c. All related company systems – will be trained in these systems.
Work Authorization
Must qualify as a U.S. Person as defined by the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) in order to access export controlled technology.
Hazardous Materials Required Training
1. Annual RCRA training for all employees (and within six months of hire date).
2. HazCom annual training for all employees.
3. Bloodborne pathogen annual training for all employees.
General: Maintain personal productivity and quality standards as determined by supervision. Follow standard departmental/company practices and procedures as outlined by management. Maintain area in a clean and orderly condition.
