Description
Responsible for performing technical laboratory testing in the clinic laboratory. Duties include but are not limited to the following:
- Performs technical laboratory functions which may include chemistry, hematology, urinalysis and other tests.
- Reports test results following clinic protocols.
- Performs quality control checks of instruments, solutions and test results against established standards.
- Prepares reagents, stains and other chemical solutions.
- Enters laboratory data into computer system.
- Orders tests from reference per established guidelines.
- Maintains equipment and supplies as needed.
- Assists with receiving, logging and collecting specimens. Prepares specimens for technical testing as assigned.
Candidates must be available to work Mondays and Fridays.
Qualifications
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
Knowledge of current medical terminology to perform full range of laboratory tests. Knowledge of laboratory equipment and testing to perform quality control checks and troubleshooting of instrumentation. Knowledge of medical terminology to communicate with medical staff regarding laboratory procedures and results. Skill in performing a full range of laboratory tests. Skill in anticipating and reacting calmly to emergency situations.
Skill in developing and maintaining department quality assurance. Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with patients, staff and the public. Ability to read and understand information about instrumentation in laboratory field. Ability to follow written protocols. Ability to work independently. Ability to communicate clearly.
EDUCATION:
Completion of Medical Technology program
EXPERIENCE:
Six months previous experience as a medical technologist preferred.
CERTIFICATE/LICENSE:
Certification as a Medical Technologist (ASCP)
