Phlebotomist
Job Details Level:Entry Salary Range: $8.75 - $10.50 Hourly
Job Location: US-TN-Clarksville Travel %: Position Type: Full Time Job Shift: Education Level: High School Job Category: Health Care Description Position is responsible for performing venipuncture on patients and basic laboratory tests. Duties include but not limited to: - Prepares equipment to efficiently collect blood products.
- Performs venipuncture, arterial and capillary punctures on patients.
- Identifies and labels specimens.
- Conducts designated laboratory testing.
- Assists in care of patient prior to, during and after collection.
- Enters laboratory data into computer system.
- Orders tests from reference per established guidelines.
- Confirms appropriate ICD9/CPT codes on lab orders.
- Cleans and sterilizes equipment, instruments and work area as assigned.
- Assists with receiving, logging and collecting specimens.
- Prepares specimens for technical testing as assigned.
- Assists with identification and labeling of specimens. Stores and distributes specimens.
- Answers telephone, takes messages and provides routine laboratory information.
- Checks inventory of supplies and assists with placing orders when assigned.
Candidates must be willing to work 11:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. schedule.
Qualifications KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES: Knowledge of laboratory techniques to perform tests. Knowledge of laboratory equipment and testing to perform quality control checks. Knowledge of medical terminology to communicate with laboratory staff. Skill in operating a variety of laboratory instrumentation. Skill in labeling and maintaining all materials of collection. Skill in generating and distributing reports concerning the results of laboratory tests and input data into computer system. Skill in making mathematical computations utilizing standard formulae. Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with patients, staff and the public. Ability to read and understand oral and written instructions. Ability to follow written protocols. Ability to work independently. Ability to communicate clearly. EDUCATION: Graduation from high school or GED. EXPERIENCE: Previous experience in medical laboratory preferred.
