This position will work 32 hrs per week

Job Description and Essential Functions

Job Title/Position: Epic Optimization Specialist

Brief Description of Job Responsibilities:

The Epic Optimization Specialist works to support Epic end users with workflow enhancements, new functionality and creating opportunities for efficiency. Works with the Epic team to assure that optimization projects are successful. Functions as a contact for all end users needing support with Epic workflows, implementation, upgrades, and maintenance of the EMR in the clinic environment.

Specialized Responsibilities:

  1. Works with end users to create, implement and/or revise workflows pertaining to EPIC functionality
  2. Builds and maintains Epic Smart Tools used for clinic documentation
  3. Provides face to face Epic and Dragon voice recognition dictation training for all new providers.
  4. Educates and assists with training staff for upgrades and updates in Epic.
  5. Identifies and investigates end user concerns/Epic issues and develops corrective strategies with the goal of maximizing the effectiveness of the EMR and patient safety
  6. Works with providers to optimize their use of Epic including building and maintaining Epic Smart Tools used for clinic documentation
  7. Completes special projects as assigned, participating in workflow analysis, training support and implementation
  8. Coordinates and facilitates with other Epic Optimization Specialists Super User meetings and training
  9. Collaborate with Chief Medical Information Officer in leading Epic ambulatory workgroup which functions as a decision making body for various workflows and concerns that arise in regard to Epic functionality.
  10. Serve as a liaison between clinical staff and Information Services (IS) for service requests and functionality enhancement requests.


Education: Associate degree, diploma or certification in healthcare field

Experience: 1-3 year`s clinical experience preferred. Epic experience a must

Typical Working Conditions:

Work is performed in an office/clinic environment and may require interaction with patients. Involves frequent telephone contact with employees and patients. Interaction with others is constant and interruptive. Contact may involve dealing with angry or upset people. Requires working under stressful conditions or working irregular hours. Flexibility needed to accommodate occasional meetings which fall outside the hours of 8-4:30. Frequent travel to various work sites required.

Typical Physical Demands:

Work may require sitting for long periods of time; also stooping, bending and stretching for files and supplies. Occasionally lifting files or paper weighing up to 30 pounds. Requires manual dexterity sufficient to operate a keyboard, operate a calculator, telephone, copier, and other such office equipment as necessary. Vision must be correctable to 20/30 and hearing must be in the normal range for telephone contacts. It is necessary to view and type on computer screens for long periods and to work in an environment which can be very stressful.
