Title Safety and Security Officer- Western, WI Description Job Description and Essential Functions Job Title/Position: Safety & Security Officer Job Classification: Support Services Date of Analysis: 01/2020 Date of Revision/Review: __________________________________________________________________________________________ Brief Description of Job Responsibilities: The Safety and Security Officer is directly responsible for the day-to-day functioning and development of the Safety and Security Department. The Safety and Security Department is part of an interdisciplinary network of departments, which falls under the category of Support Services. Its specific mission is to safeguard patients, staff, visitors and property by carrying out the policies and procedures of the safety program. Specialized Responsibilities: (This list may not include all of the duties assigned) - Maintain accurate records of the Safety and Security Department activities and prepares reports as needed.
- Ensures that security inspections are conducted as scheduled and that corrections are made as needed.
- Trains new employees regarding fire safety which includes the use of fire extinguishers.
- Manages safety related contracts.
- Checks safety equipment to ensure proper usage and storage and assures that all safety equipment is in working condition.
- Ensures proper safety training for personnel.
- Protects the life and property of patients and staff.
- Establish working arrangements with the local law enforcement authorities.
- Coordinates fire drills with the Facilities Department.
- Establish working arrangements with the local fire departments.
- Participates in interdisciplinary hazardous surveillance rounds of the buildings to identify hazardous conditions.
- Provides education related to safety issues to all staff.
- Presents a positive public image and maintains good relationships with the patients, staff, visitors and physicians.
- Organizes and directs special security and surveillance operations.
- Investigates crimes against person and property.
- Interrogates witnesses.
- Collects and preserves evidence.
- Works with local law enforcement agencies.
- Directs the day-to-day operation of the keycard entry systems, cameras systems, and security/fire monitoring systems.
- Works with Clinical Educator and Facilities Department to ensure proper functioning of temperature monitoring devices. Knowledge of fire and life safety hazards, emergency planning, safety and security hazards of a health care setting, patrol and surveillance methods and building evacuation procedures; management practices.

- High School diploma or equivalent education
- Valid Driver`s License
- Two years previous security experience or related guard, police officer or military background.
- Experienced in implementing safety and security policies and procedures; designing, developing and presenting training to adults in structured learning situations using a variety of training methods; preparing investigative reports. Other duties as required or requested by Manager.Typical Working Conditions:

- On-site work area environment. Tasks require movement of significant distances between and within buildings, often in adverse weather conditions.

Prolonged walking or standing, repeated stooping, squatting, stretching. Flexible hours, shifts and workdays are required. Must have the ability to lift or otherwise maneuver heavy materials weighing approximately fifty pounds. Requires corrected vision to 20/30 and hearing to normal range.
