Job Description
The database administrator will be responsible for the operational and environmental aspects of development, certification and production of database systems.
Responsibilities:
- Ongoing management and maintenance of RDBMS and related software. This includes installing upgrades and new software
- Ensure that backup and recovery procedure are functioning correctly and properly. Includes validating backups by performing restores periodically
- Manage and monitor system to ensure optimal performance and availability
- Performance analysis and tuning
- Security administration: defining and implementing access controls, applying patches, configuring for best practices, reviewing application changes, etc.
- Work with product management and development team to appropriately address capacity planning
- Automate database administration tasks
- As time permits, develop stored procedures, schema and other application level objects
- Participate in application database design reviews to eliminate issues early in the cycle
- Work with development and sysadmin teams to identify and address performance considerations and ensure optimal performance and efficiency of storage
Knowledge and skills:
- Strong knowledge of and experience with SQL Server 2000 and 2005
- Must have thorough and complete understanding of application development process and life cycle
- Excellent trouble shooting abilities
- Must be a strong team player, posses strong interpersonal, communication and organizational skills and have the ability to successfully work on multiple projects simultaneously
- Must be able to work closely with development team and system administrator
- Must possess excellent analytical skills
- Attention to detail
- Able to successfully interface with technical and non-technical groups
- Must posess excellent database development skills (tsql, logical/physical design, ability to find and follow best practices, etc.)
Education and work experience:
- BS in computer science, or related technical field or equivalent experience is required
- 3+ years development experience with Microsoft SQL Server 2000 and/or 2005
- 5+ years administration experience with Microsoft SQL Server 2000/2005
- Experience in full database application lifecycle including design, code, test, release and production support
- Experience implementing and supporting highly reliable, available and scaleable databases
- Experience in a position of leadership
