Summary:
Under supervision of the Director of Information Technology, assists Senior Network Engineer with the corporate LAN and WAN, and/or PC software and hardware, and phone system needs of the corporation; researches and evaluates the utility of LAN/WAN and/or PC software applications and makes recommendations; assists in establishing equipment and material requirements; performs the installation, and problem analysis of LAN/WAN and/or PC applications; monitors operation of network systems to maintain efficiency; recommends and, after approval, implements enhancements, improvements, or changes as required; provides assistance to IT staff as needed.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
* Assists with security systems, e.g., network or host-based Intrusion Detection Systems and firewalls, including review of system logs for suspicious activities. Protects against unauthorized super user accesses.
* Researches and evaluates LAN/WAN and PC network software and hardware to determine their utility in the operation of corporate practice.
* Responsible for maintaining and updating current phone system hardware, documenting, reporting, and training necessary staff on phone system functionality including, but not limited to Call Pilot, OTM, and Symposium.
* Determines the configuration of existing or anticipated computer equipment and electronic databases during the planning, installation, and maintenance of PC network applications
* Responsible for checking daily backup logs to ensures data integrity and data validity on disaster recovery media.
* Installs network applications and troubleshoots network connectivity problems. Evaluates, troubleshoots and tests software. Provides problem correction analysis for systems and LAN/WAN issues.
* Assists in the preparation of hardware, software, or procedural documentation for department personnel during implementation. Assists in the planning and implementation of new security systems, tools, processes or procedures.
* Adds and maintains users on the network, assigning application access, ensuring security. Maintains configurations within standards for both local and remote use. Creates and manages public folders.
* Works with Senior Network Engineer to develop operational processes to maintain system security.
* Maintains familiarity with PACS and Voice recognition software to determine impact on practice data communications.
* Assists Senior Network Engineer in all aspects of telecommunication connectivity (T1, Fiber, etc.).
* Uses established procedures for monitoring, reporting, and responding to computer security incidents both intrusive and non-intrusive. Uses established procedures for monitoring malicious software such as viruses, worms, and Trojan horses.
* Installs new software applications or hardware on the LAN, coordinating assistance from third parties when necessary. Assists in the installations of workstations and printers on the LAN.
* Performs network and systems scans or reviews other data as part of suspected exploitations or incident response in order to identify and address corporate vulnerabilities.
* Assists Senior Network Engineer to conduct server access audits and maintain audit records. Evaluates corporate systems, which may include network equipment, computers, and applications, for appropriate security design and configuration. Advises on potential weaknesses and recommends remedial action.
* Helps train department staff in the use and understanding of networking technologies and equipment.
* Communicates clearly in both written and verbal format.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Responsible for training of department staff in the use and understanding or networking technologies and equipment and industry-standard principles.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Knowledge of principles, theories, and practices pertaining to network communications, (e.g. Industry standards for PC operating systems, LAN/WAN hardware configuration and implementation, CISCO switches, routers and firewalls, E-mail systems, and diagnostic software), network management, software utilities, methods and techniques of training, cable requirements and interface technology; requirements and procedures for determining the configuration of computer equipment, and system level and commercially-packaged software; general activities and functions of the corporate practice. Knowledge of security protocols and applications, including Kerberos, RADIUS, and SSL. Knowledge of commonly exploited applications (e.g. web browsers) and techniques (e.g. IP spoofing, buffer overflow, denial-of-service). Basic knowledge of authentication systems including token-based authentication and digital certificates. Basic knowledge of cryptography and its use in a business environment. Ability to configure and maintain an active directory schema.
Ability to install and configure LAN/WAN equipment, and system-level and commercially packaged software; manipulate numerical data in the production of records; work effectively with staff; independently analyze problems and implement solutions; communicate effectively both orally and in writing; maintain current computer and network technology knowledge; read, interpret and apply technical manuals, and documentation; work flexible hours when necessary; lift and move PC's and related equipment, will stand on some ladders as needed for some assignments.
Must demonstrate interpersonal skills to positively interact with customers, supervisors, coworkers, and vendors. Must continuously upgrade skills to keep up with technology changes.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
Associate Degree in computer technology or related field plus one year experience with installation and maintenance operations of networks and PC customer support. Microsoft Certified Systems Administrator and Cisco Certified Networking Associate certification preferred.
OR
Equivalent combination of education and experience. Microsoft Certified Systems Administrator and Cisco Certified Networking Associate certification preferred.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of employees.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
REASONING ABILITY:
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete and abstract variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, and REGISTRATIONS:
Must posses a valid Florida Drivers License. Microsoft Certified Systems Administrator and Cisco Certified Network Associate certifications.
