Job Description:
L-3 Vertex, a recognized leader in aircraft modification and special mission system integration, offers challenging and rewarding assignments across a broad spectrum of aircraft modification programs. L-3 Vertex has over fifty years of experience providing innovative solutions for major structural modifications to military and commercial aircraft. L-3 Vertex has successfully modified over 15,000 aircraft comprised of more than 125 unique aircraft types.
Develops components or portions of a functional system to develop or improve products and facilitate aircraft modifications on both fixed and rotary wing Customs and Border Protection fleet aircraft. Utilizing computer-aided design equipment, develops basic data and makes preliminary layouts, sketches, and notes necessary to present design proposal. Investigates pertinent design factors such as ease of manufacture, availability of materials and equipment, interchangeability, replaceability, strength-weight efficiency, and contractual specification requirements and cost. Coordinates with other organizations affected by design development. Makes layouts of complex assemblies and details parts of devices, mechanisms, and structures. Checks completed layouts and drawings for clarity, completeness, conformity to standards, procedures, specifications, and accuracy of calculations and dimensioning. Identifies design errors, omissions, and other deficiencies, and recommends revisions and/or improvements in design layout to responsible engineers or designers.
Knowledge:
Limited use and/or application of basic principles, theories, and concepts. In-depth knowledge of FAA practices and standards.
Qualifications:
AutoCad 2007 experience, FAA A&P license (Inspection Authorization highly desireable), FCC License, DoD Interim Secret Security Clearance required prior to hire.

Solves routine problems of limited scope and complexity following established policies and procedures.
Discretion:
Work is closely supervised. Follows specific, detailed instructions.

Contributions are usually limited to task-related activities. Errors do not typically have a major effect on the organization.
Liaison:
Contacts are primarily with immediate supervisor, and other personnel in the action or group.
Physical Requirements:
Must be able to board/exit aircraft. Must be able to climb, including ladders, stairs and portable stands and navigate these without assistance. Must be able to work in extreme heat/cold. Must be able to work in the following environmental conditions: noise, vibration, proximity to moving mechanical parts, moving vehicles, electrical current, chemicals, odors, dust. Must be able to bend, reach, stoop, balance, push, pull, kneel, grasp, crouch, and crawl. Must be able to stand for sustained periods of time. Must be able to walk for long distances or move from one work site to another. Must be able to work in close quarters such as crawl spaces. Must be able to work primarily with fingers such as typing. Must be able to communicate effectively. Must have close visual acuity. Must be able to lift/maneuver up to 50 pounds.
