Applications Engineer

SUMMARY

Provides direct technical support to Business Development Director of Sales and assists in opportunities to identify additional sales for RB Royal Industries, Inc.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Collaborates with various Sales Department personnel to strategize new business opportunities and emphasizes the technical aspect of the opportunity.

Reviews customers’ applications both on print and at the customers’ locations and consults on value added design alternatives with quality improvement being the focus along with a sense of urgency.

Prepares product cost estimates with regard for manufacturability, quality and standard cost.

Develops design concepts, in conjunction with Quality & Manufacturing Engineering.

Collaborates with office personnel for the successful production launch of new customer’s products.

Keeps current with RB Royal shop floor capabilities to be able to accurately apply those capabilities to new business opportunities.

Communicates customer expectations to manufacturing personnel to ensure customer expectations are met.

Assists customers with new designs and improvement to existing designs via solid CAD modeling, functional prototyping and conceptual discussions.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Strong math skills to support the ability to use the quoting process, margin analysis, internal cost structure.

Skills to include determination of customer interest and needs, presentation of RB Royal abilities to fill those needs, persuasion, win-win outlook and getting the best for both the customer and RB Royal.

Keen understanding of engineering concepts such as design basics of mechanical applications, machine capabilities, metals, bends, tooling in order to be able to determine customer application needs as being consistent with RB Royal capabilities.

Professional demeanor and appearance to interact appropriately with RB Royal customers, gather ideas, present ideas and provide the value added proposition that doing business with RB Royal will benefit the customer.

Computer skills to include CAD solid modeling, basic database and spreadsheet applications, and presentation software, as well as basic of computer controlled production machinery to be able to produce prototypes.

Written and verbal communication skills for conveying information to and from the customer, issuing reports, sending correspondence to outside entities on behalf of the company, presentation style that is within the culture and acceptable to internal management as well as customers.

Persuasion abilities to encourage customers to accept the sales as well as with internal co-workers to accomplish the customers’ goals.

QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor’s degree in an engineering discipline as well as 3-5 years experience in a design or technical mechanical position within a manufacturing firm. Extensive customer contact in a technical position plus skills in CAD, Microsoft products, machine operation. Previous experience in a marketing/sales role with an engineering background is a plus.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Ability to read, analyze and interpret common scientific and technical journals and financial reports and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies or members of business community. Ability to effectively present information to top management, customers, public groups and/or boards of directors.

REASONING ABILITY:
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions and percentages. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and other math skills relative to marketing statistical analysis.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

OTHER ABILITIES AND/OR SKILLS:
Ability to travel by air or land and to hold a valid drivers’ license.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to talk and/or hear. The employee is regularly required to stand, walk and sit. The employee will occasionally be required to lift up to 50 pounds.

Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance perception and color vision.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
The employee occasionally will work near moving mechanical parts. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate, with occasional exposure to a loud work environment.
