Title: Demand Planner

Try this on for size: The Demand Planner is responsible for creating and maintaining accurate demand plans, incorporating historical trends and forecast information gathered from sales, marketing, finance, new product development, customers, and other sources.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:
Utilizes quantitative and qualitative methods to create operational forecasts
Reviews internal trends (examples: historical sales trends, channel and category sales trends)
Reviews external trends (examples: weather patterns/seasonality, industry indicators, competition)
Plans for and researches demand drivers (examples: price increases, effect of promotions/buying programs, new/closed accounts)
Interacts with sales representatives/field staff for field input and current trends
Analyzes retail point of sales trends and correlates to wholesale sales trends
Continually analyzes and makes appropriate adjustments to the operational forecast and informs stakeholders of changes
Reviews and addresses alerts in the demand planning system
Sales, Inventory and Operations Planning (SIOP)
Leads the business unit alignment portion of SIOP, ensuring alignment of the operational forecast with sales leadership and finance. Participates in the brand review portion of SIOP with supply chain.
Communicates with finance and other stakeholders to ensure transparency and alignment on forecasts and trends
Develops, maintains and provides insights around the forecasting scorecard
Product Lifecycle Planning and Inventory
Provides input to Supply Chain Planning and Procurement in developing inventory strategies on existing product, new product, and product discontinuation/replacements.
Product discontinuation: coordinates the product discontinuation process (timing to minimize risk and cost, stopping supply, understanding impact of drops for excess materials and effect on other styles)
New products: prepares and updates forecasts based on sales input, sell-in and sell-through rates, determines impact on other styles, works with Buyer/Planner/Scheduler to adjust POs/production
Analyzes and provides reporting on excess inventory and coordinates reduction plans with key stakeholders
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Obtain necessary information by maintaining knowledge of RWSCs electronic communication software.
Maintain quality service by establishing, following, and enforcing organization quality system standards.
Uphold Red Wing Shoe Companys core values.
Complete other duties as assigned from time to time by your manager.
Maintain technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, classes or programs.
Conduct self according to RWSC policies/Handbook.
Internal: SVP, VP Sales and Operations, Sr. Director Sales and Distribution, Region Directors, Territory Sales Managers, Region Sales Managers, Industrial Sales Managers, Retail Operations Managers, Corporate Accounts, National Accounts, Finance, Supply Chain Planning and Procurement, Marketing, Product Development, HR, IT
External: Distributors and/or specific corporate account customers, suppliers, consultants
Requirements EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE
Bachelors degree (B.A./B.S.) from four-year college or university and two to five years demand planning or forecasting/training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
ADDITIONAL DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS AND COMPETENCIES
Forecasting certification preferred
Computer literacy, with knowledge of technology that enables effective demand planning (Logility, JDA, SAP, etc.)
Strong analytical aptitude and demonstrated analytical skills
Demonstrated business acumen, knowledge of forecasting methodology
Demonstrated accuracy and attention to detail
Critical thinking, problem solving, and prioritization skills
Demonstrated ability to openly communicate with people at all levels of the organization, strong written and oral communication skills
Aptitude to lead via influence with demonstrated interpersonal and collaboration skills
Results orientation with a bias toward action
Takes initiative, spots opportunities to make a contribution or improvement and acts on it appropriately
Tactical execution including managing competing priorities effectively, task and time management
Proficient with Microsoft Office suite, specifically MS PowerPoint, MS Word, MS Excel
