We are looking for a Retail Accounting Manager to manage, mentor and lead the Retail General Ledger Team to ensure records, general ledgers and financial reports for Red Wing Shoe Company retail stores are complete and accurate and in accordance with US GAAP. A key member of the retail accounting team, this position will partner with Corporate Accounting and the Retail Financial Services team to ensure financial and business processes and controls exist and are performing as designed for both company and dealer owned stores. Responsibilities include manage a high performing retail general ledger team; simplify and standardize accounting, processes, and controls; ensure month end close activities are timely, complete, and accurate; and lead the annual audit for retail accounting.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
Oversees month end close activities for retail stores including journal entry review, recording month end accruals, calculation of accounting service fees and store commissions, and tracking to close schedule. Assists with financial statement review, variance analysis, and publishing of store financial reports. Ensures compliance with internal controls and US GAAP.
Monthly review, monitoring and approval of the balance sheet reconciliation process for company and dealer owned stores. Assists with complex reconciliations and outstanding reconciling items. Ensures reconciliations are timely, complete, and accurate, and reconciling items are researched, supported, and cleared in a timely manner.
Leads the development of Retail Accounting policies and procedures for both company and dealer owned stores. Ensures policies, procedures, and internal controls are implemented and monitored.
Manages a team of 5 to 8 associate, staff, and senior accountants in accordance with the organizations policies including interviewing, hiring, training, directing work, and appraising performance. Assesses team performance including knowledge, skills and abilities. Identifies opportunities for development and training, and provides recommendations for organizational improvements.
Collaborates with the Retail Financial Services Manager and Retail Accounting Manager on continuous process improvement initiatives, shared business unit goals, and alignment.
Participates cross-functionally with Retail Operations, Customer Experience, Business Technology, Human Resources and other finance departments on projects delivering business unit growth, continuous improvement, and compliance. Acts as a change agent to lead retail accounting cross-functional projects. Partners with the retail organization to understand business initiatives and their respective impact to accounting and controls.
Leads the annual financial audit for US company owned retail stores. Ensures audit preparedness for financial records, processes and controls. Coordinates audit requests and ensure deliverables are provided within the requested time frame. Works directly with external auditors to remediate open issues.

Requirements EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND REQUIRED COMPETENCIES
Bachelors degree (B.A./B.S.) in Accounting from an accredited college or university, and 5-7 years of related experience/training. CPA or CMA, and public accounting experience required. Audit experience preferred.
Established record of improvement through process improvement methodologies which result in organizational efficiencies
Proven experience building high performing teams, an inspiring and motivating leader capable of developing the team for succession; player/coach leadership style that creates an environment of accountability and illustrates a commitment to teamwork and delegation. Is perceived as a strong role model and mentor for his/her team.
Demonstrated record of building consensus, trust, open communication, promotion of diverse perspectives, mutual support and empowerment.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE
Strong knowledge of US GAAP; retail experience preferred
Experience leading, mentoring and managing people
Experience in financial statement review and analysis
Advanced computer skills in Excel, Word and other Microsoft Suite tools
Experience with accounting and financial reporting systems, such as ERP systems and retail transaction platforms
Ability to work well under pressure and meet deadlines
Excellent organizational skills, ability to multi-task, and the ability to work well in a team.
Demonstrated analytical, quantitative, and problem solving skills
Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal skills
