SUMMARY
Provide executive leadership of Sunflower’s finances.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Corporate Financial
  • Provide executive leadership for the development and maintenance of a financial management program capable of prudent and effective management of all matters involving cash, investments, debt, and all other financial matters. Provide business and financial insight, information, and direction throughout Sunflower to ensure a fiscally responsible approach to meeting the cooperative’s business objectives.
  • Represent Sunflower’s financial condition and develop and maintain positive working relationships with financial institutions to assure adequate liquidity is accessible to support business operations.
  • Establish and oversee adherence to financial processes and controls assuring the integrity of all financial data and reporting. Ensure the appropriate resolution of issues identified by external auditors.
  • Participate in ensuring that Sunflower is successful as operating agent for Mid Kansas Electric Company’s generation and transmission operations.
Financial Planning
Direct and oversee the development and integration of the annual budget and rate setting process ensuring accuracy, integrity, and availability of financial resources needed for business operations, and to ensure that all financial covenants are met. Review the budget monthly to ensure Sunflower is meeting its financial objectives. Implement proper resolution of major variances. Direct cost/benefit analyses for all major capital expenditures. Oversee development of long-range load forecasts, power requirement studies, and integrated resource plans.

Financial Services
Oversee the development and maintenance of a comprehensive accounting program including cash management ensuring financial resources are available. Direct financial reporting activities to ensure the integrity of reporting systems and compliance with GAAP and other legal requirements.

Management and Leadership
  • Serve as member of executive staff providing strategic direction in the achievement of business goals and objectives and promoting integration between divisions.
  • Provide leadership, coaching and counseling to direct reports regarding job performance. Conduct annual performance appraisals in a timely manner. Ensure direct reports receive training in order to meet or improve their job performance. Keep employees informed of work requirements, business conditions, company policies and other factors that impact their work performance and work environment.

Safety
Maintain safety awareness and comply with all safety policies, practices and procedures to assure a safe working environment. Properly wear and care for applicable safety gear and/or equipment required. Identify and communicate unsafe conditions to supervisor, co-workers and the safety department and/or correct or assist in resolving safety concerns and issues.
Must understand and comply with the Clearance Procedure as applicable.

QUALIFICATIONS
Education
  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, or related field.
  • Prefer Master’s degree in business or management.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
  • Strategic planning skills including formalizing long range plans. Ability to assess internal and external factors which impact success.
  • Skilled in conducting financial analyses of a company’s financial position and operating performance and the ability to apply that to organizational decision-making.
  • Able to deal with diverse business problems, issues, and opportunities in which many problems exist simultaneously, the problems compete for immediate attention, and the issues are interrelated.
  • Knowledge of existing and projected variables that influence the financial health of the cooperative. Able to establish and monitor a company-wide budget.
  • Knowledge of cash management and investments including cash flow and its timing. Ability to plan for and obtain and use funds to maximize financial resources of Sunflower.
  • Skilled at providing leadership, coaching, mentoring, and supervision to employees. Able to implement and maintain a sound performance management system.
  • Skilled at preparing and delivering complex oral and written communication, presentations, reports, and correspondence.
  • Able to develop and maintain positive relationships within Sunflower, the Board, and outside entities.

Experience
  • Minimum of 10 years progressively responsible experience in all facets of accounting and financial management.
  • Successful leadership and supervisory experience.

Other
  • Skilled in the use and application of personal computers and related software for word processing, spreadsheets, presentations, and email.
  • Valid driver’s license and the ability to travel to in and out of state as needed.
