SUMMARY
Perform professional engineering work to evaluate the distribution operations as well as maintenance practices and procedures. Provide appropriate support to achieve the lowest cost, most reliable and environmentally sound electric transmission and distribution possible.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Design
Assist in developing overall design and design modification of transmission lines, substations and switching stations. Assist in providing technical support for installation.

Collect, organize and analyze information and coordinate with other departments to decide the scope of work for approved projects, programs, modifications and upgrades.

System Data
Assist in obtaining and maintaining system data and computer programs necessary to provide required information for relay, fuses, recloser and breaker coordination on the transmission and member’s distribution systems.

Assist in the maintenance and updates to the EMS/SCADA system software and hardware. Perform under close supervision, computer analysis pertaining to power flow, short circuits, voltage drops, motor starting and loss analysis of the power system (transmission and
distribution) performance under various specified conditions.

Safety
Maintain safety awareness and comply with all safety policies, practices and procedures to assure a safe working environment. Properly wear and care for applicable safety gear and/or equipment required. Identify and communicate unsafe conditions to supervisor, co-workers and the safety department and/or correct or assist in resolving safety concerns and issues.

Must understand and comply with the Clearance Procedure as applicable.

QUALIFICATIONS
Education
Bachelors of Science Electrical Engineering Degree from an ABET accredited institution or an approved equivalent for engineering. May consider other BS Engineering degrees.

Licensure
Professional licensure, depending on level of experience, is highly desirable and may be required at higher levels or contingent upon company needs and subject to mandated law.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

  • Able to develop and maintain current knowledge base of design techniques and equipment requirements and the proper application in design, operation and maintenance of transmission and distribution lines, substations and switching stations.
  • Able to develop and maintain current understanding of the regulatory environmental requirements pertaining to operation and maintenance of Sunflower’s transmission anddistribution system.
  • Able to develop a working understanding of the operation of EMS/SCADA system software and hardware.
  • Know how to read and interpret one-line diagrams, control schematics, as-built documents, vendor drawings, contracts, specifications, service agreements and other records or documents pertaining to systems, projects and programs, system modifications or upgrades and such other areas as assigned.
  • Competent and effective in use of company computers and software including spreadsheets, word processors, CAD software, electronic mail, electronic schedules, resource management systems and engineering specific programs.
  • Sound written and oral communication skills are essential in developing and maintaining effective interaction and professional relationships with Sunflower staff and representatives of member systems, vendors, guests and others doing business with Sunflower.
  • Sound organizational and time management skills are essential.
  • Programming experience and/or knowledge of advanced systems such as UNIX, C programming, “high-end” databases, network software, security programs and communications software is beneficial.
  • Familiarity with design and construction techniques and practices is desirable.

Experience
New graduate to 3 years of practical utility or equivalent experience.

Other
Possess and maintain a valid driver’s license. Travel will be required on an as-needed basis.
