Laboratory Manager

Job Location: Tulsa, OK

Job Description:
  • Work safely and foster a secure and sound working environment
  • Maintain an environmentally clean and neat laboratory operation
  • Proactively participate, lead, and fully comply with SemMaterials compliance programs
  • Establish bench activity priorities
  • Maintain operation and calibration of laboratory testing equipment
  • Work closely with the SemMaterials Plant Support Engineers and Systems Field Engineers to identify and understand customer needs (internal & external
  • Update, maintain, and train colleagues on laboratory procedures for the manufacture of asphalt emulsions, polymer modified asphalts
  • Screen incoming materials (asphalts, polymers, emulsifiers, additives, diluents, etc)
  • Design experiments utilizing best experimental design techniques in an effort to meet target goals and customers needs *Conduct experiments and recognize next step adjustments based on information gathered
  • Associate connections between product formulations, manufacturing process variables, laboratory test data, and field performance
  • Analyze raw data and generate written reports for distribution
  • Provide formulation recommendations to plant support engineers while giving consideration to product manufacture, specification compliance, product consistency, product field application, and product economics
  • Trouble-shoot off-specification products when necessary and provide repair recommendations
  • Assume lead role in maintaining accreditation in laboratory
  • Trouble-shoot laboratory instruments when in need of repair

Job Requirements:
  • Bachelors degree in Chemistry or related field
  • History of working safely
  • Previous laboratory experience
  • Ability to understand and perform laboratory testing from written industry standards such as ASTM and AASHTO
  • Computer competency in spreadsheets and word processing programs
  • Ability to interface and pass information to customers
  • Good interpersonal and communicative skills
  • Ability to work with others in a positive, cooperative manner
  • Flexibility and willingness to work OT when needed in order to get the job done
  • Knowledge of laboratory instrument electronics and ability to trouble shoot
  • Knowledge of asphalt testing
