We''re looking for a candidate with 2 to 3 years of VB.NET programming experience to assist our emerging systems development.
Primary Purpose
Create software by reviewing business requirements, collaborating on a design, writing the code, testing the code, resolving test issues and then delivering and supporting a quality solution that fulfills or exceeds the originating business need in a business relevant timeframe. This will be accomplished within a project based work environment by using a customer centric approach that strives to creatively and continually improve business processes with software technology and tools.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
(Other duties may be assigned)
- Performs Application Development with Operational Projects and Maintenance work on embedded business software as well as part of Major Projects involving emerging business software solutions.
- Performs Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) activities such as: transforms documented detailed business requirements into a technical design document with correlated screen prototype(s), writes software code, performs usability/functionality testing, debugs code issues, promotes code, and provides implementation support.
- Collaborates with the Project Manager to support the business objective of a project. This could be working on Operational Projects, Maintenance requests within embedded systems, or on Major Project tasks related to an emerging business software solution.
- Communicates time estimates consistently and accurately for assigned project tasks as well as provides timely progress status information on these tasks to the Project Manager.
- Completes assigned tasks according to collaborated timelines.
- Formulates and executes strategies that mitigate delays and/or project obstacles.
- Researches and designs efficient user interfaces and software navigation techniques. Creates prototypes to present software design options to Business Leads to gain buy-in prior to writing software.
- Performs quality checks on software code prior to advancing to Quality Assurance and/or User Acceptance testing.
- Resolves user community issues with a certain degree of creativity and latitude with the support of senior staff by developing software and/or data-flow enhancements within the embedded systems.
- Stays up-to-date with the latest programming tools, techniques and methodologies.
- Solves software and business process challenges with an assured degree of creativity.
Required:
- Bachelors Degree with focus in computer related field OR a 2 year technical degree with a focus on programming and a minimum of 2 years of application development experience.
- Demonstrated on the job experience in most of the following technologies; ASP.NET 2005/2008, VB.NET, Visual Studio 2010, CSS, .NET Master Pages, Surround, Oracle database, ODP.NET,
Preferred:
- Experience working in a project based application development environment inclusive of PM, SDLC methodologies. Working knowledge of the ITIL controls framework.
- A background with any or all of the following technologies; Java, SQL, DB2, WebSphere, Adobe LiveCycle ES, Adobe Forms, Content Management, OCR, HTML, JavaScript, MS Access, VISIO, VB, MS Office and Outlook.
- Working knowledge about designing and developing in a multiple tier (n-tier) environment. (User Interface, Business and Data access layers).
- Excellent communication, presentation and facilitation skills.
- Conceptual understanding of the P&C Insurance Industry and related business processes.
