JOB DESCRIPTION:
The major tasks, duties, and responsibilities in this position include: organizing, clarifying, and maintaining diet orders and menus for all hospitalized patients; tallying all menus for the cook and salad areas in order to prepare accurate amounts of food, assembling and delivering late trays to the floors while practicing good customer service; organizing, preparing, and delivering accurate nourishments to the floors; assisting in the dish room as required; achieving accuracy and enhancing the eye ap-peal in preparing patient trays; filling requisitions received from other departments; informing the cooks as well as salad section employees in case of diet changes; entering cafeteria charges into the computer and assisting cafeteria personnel as needed. Also, the diet clerk must cooperate with other departments and work with the Clinical Dietitian to upgrade his/her knowledge of appropriate diets and set up menus appropriate to a patients age, physical status, and religious and cultural beliefs. In addition, compliance with the following hospital-wide standards is required: complying with safety and emergency procedures; demonstrating an awareness for the need for continual education of self and others; providing cooperative and courteous service to patients, visitors, and co-workers; exercising the knowledge and judgment to perform the required duties; documenting information, communicating information in an appropriate and timely manner according to department guidelines; demonstrating responsibility and accountability for adherence to organizational and departmental standards and policies; and demonstrating a commitment to the hospitals quality improvement process.

The Room service position will include: providing quality customer service, delivering patient trays, assisting patients with their meal selections, explaining the room service process, operating a cash register, and performing
cash/charge related transactions.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Able to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • Must be able to read and write and follow oral and written directions.
  • Must be able to count money and make change.
  • Able to work under stressful situations.
  • Requires concentration for long periods of time.
  • Able to use telephone for communication.
  • Able to perform multiple tasks at one time.PHYSICAL

REQUIREMENTS:
  • Able to work in latex burdened environment.
  • Able to lift cases of groceries, flour, sugar, and containers of food that could weigh up to 50 pounds.
  • Able to sit, stand, or walk for long periods of time with extensive bending and reaching.
  • Demonstrates adequate vision to read and prepare documents and labels, and give appropriate por-tion control.

JOB RELATIONSHIPS:
  • Reports to the Nutrition Services Supervisor and Director.
