Job Location: Moss Point, MS

Primary Functions:   

Maintain and repair all machinery or mechanical equipment in the plant.  This job requires a broad range of experience on various types of equipment including automobiles, tractors, cranes, trailers, production machinery, Travelift, loaders, pickup trucks, lift trucks, etc.  Also, includes knowledge of building structures and their mechanical, electrical, heating, air conditioning and sanitary systems

 

Machines, Tools, and Equipment Used

Micrometer, calipers, feeler gauges, timing light, flow and amp meters, compression gauges, torque wrench, hammer, wrenches, socket set, power drill, air tools, steam cleaner, come-along, hard hat, safety glasses, etc.

 

Materials Used:

Solvents, grease, glue, oil, gas, diesel fuel, wire, tubing, hose, machine parts, spark plugs, hydraulic fluid, electrical wire, etc

 

Supervision Received

Reports to Maintenance Supervisor.  Works with minimal supervision

 

Supervisory Responsibilities

May direct maintenance helper or lower level mechanic

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

All employees are required to follow all Safety and Quality rules and processes to ensure a safe working environment, and the production of high-quality products.

 

Daily:

  1. Examine machines and mechanical equipment to diagnose source of trouble
  2. Dismantle machines and reassemble if necessary
  3. Replace broken and work out parts
  4. Order replacement parts if required
  5. Make all necessary adjustments to ensure proper operation
  6. Keep in good repair the building structures and equipment including electrical switches, fixtures, motors, occasional painting or touching up structures or equipment, repairing plumbing fixtures, etc.
  7. Repair, rebuild, or overhaul internal combustion engines including replacement of piston rings, bearings, or other engine parts; grinding and adjusting valves; rebuilding carburetors, etc.
  8. Overhaul transmissions, repair fuel injection, lighting and ignition systems.

  1. Perform miscellaneous duties as directed by Supervisor

Requires ability to make independent decisions including:

Attention to detail to ensure that all jobs are completed in an exemplary manner and any potential hazards or warning signs of problems are not overlooked

 

Contacts (Internal and External):

Daily contact with fellow employees, upper management

 

Work of Others:

Daily instruct, check, verify work of others or coordinate the workflow of others

 

Job Specifications or Qualifications

Certificates, Licenses, Registration:  None

Education:  High School Diploma or general education degree (GED) is required

Experience:  Three to six months previous experience as a maintenance mechanic or similar role

Supervisory Experience: None
