Engineer II - Project Engineer
Job Location: Clifton, NJ
Position Description:
Our client is seeking a Project Engineer that would provide engineering and engineering support services to the Space Systems Division's Engineering business unit under general direction. May be assigned the engineering responsibility for a project or part of a project depending upon size, scope and complexity.
Scope and Principle Duties:
Provides engineering and engineering support, research, evaluation and development for highly complex and technical space-based aerospace products. Uses the application of engineering standards, principles, theories, concepts and techniques. Designs, develops, tests and verifies complex engineering tasks in electrical, mechanical, optical, software, systems, and/or hardware components. Work may encompass a wide range of sophisticated (cross-discipline) engineering problem resolutions. The role can involve design and development engineering assignments related to products and systems including the engineering of new products or updates to existing products.
Job Specifications and Work Performed:
- Provides investigation, analysis and solutions to technical problems encountered by engineering services, quality control and manufacturing departments using the application of engineering standards, principles, theories, concepts and techniques.
- Plans design layouts in order to study the operation, select major components, assure conformance to functional and operating requirements, and determine the optimum location and arrangement from an engineering, manufacturing and maintainability standpoint.
- Prepares and provides technical data to other engineering sections for contractors and vendors for utilization in support activities.
- Performs special assignments as requested. May be required to perform other assignments which are normally related to the work of higher or lower engineering classifications.
- Investigates problem areas and initiates corrective measures relating to the interpretation of technical data and the functioning of equipment during prototype construction or manufacturing phases and field installation.
- Analyzes engineering plans and projects to establish operating data and conducts experimental tests; analyzes proposals and related technical data to develop design alternatives.
- Develops and implements test procedures while selecting appropriate test instrumentation.
- Interacts with design teams to determine the qualification and manufacturability of new technologies
- Maintains engineering notebooks in department approved repository for work products in accordance with established policy and procedures. Keeps abreast of the state-of-the-art by reading technical journals and publications.
- 75% of Travel is required
Experience Requirements:
Competencies Needed:
1. Must have a developed and proficient knowledge and competent understanding of engineering standards, principles and theories to complete engineering tasks assigned. Can explain the technology applications and benefits to a general audience.
2. Must have a general understanding of basic business competencies and business unit operations as well as area reporting structures.
3. A knowledge and demonstrated awareness of the ITT VBLD competencies of creating the future, leading with character, building through teamwork, inspiring commitment, and delivering results.
Contact Responsibility (internal or external)
Primarily internal company contacts with other departments and occasional contact with outside vendors or customers on routine matters.
Education and Experience:
Requires B.S. degree, preferably in Engineering or in a technical area of science and research with a minimum of 2 years experience or a MS degree with no experience.
