Lead Security Systems Engineer
Job Location: Clifton, NJ
Position Description:
Our client is seeking a Lead Staff Security Systems Engineer. This person will be responsible for development and certification of Security subsystems for military and other government systems. The position entails analysis and synthesis of DoD and Air Force Assurance Information requirements as well as NSA cryptographic requirements into a certifiable architecture. In addition the candidate will be responsible for but not limited to security aspects of system design specification, test and integration of the security subsystem into the host system. The qualified individual should be able to develop system specifications, system design, system test methodology and certification documents leading to certification/accreditation efforts. Also must be able to develop presentations and deliver to customers.
Scope and Principal Duties:
Champions and develops innovative principles and ideas. Applies cutting edge principles, theories, concepts and technologies to the specified area of engineering for highly complex and technical aerospace products. Work will encompass a wide range of sophisticated (cross-discipline) engineering problem resolutions. Works under consultative direction toward the predetermined long-range targets for projects, programs, or products. Uses the application of engineering standards, principles, theories, concepts and techniques which are highly innovative and ingenious. Designs, develops, tests and verifies complex engineering in electrical, mechanical, optical, software, systems, and/or hardware components.
Job Specifications and Work Performed:
- Develops innovative principles and ideas to solve unusually complex and sensitive problems. Applies cutting edge principles, theories, concepts and technologies to the specified area of engineering.
- Serves as the organization spokesperson on specialized projects, programs or products. May serve as the Sr. Staff Scientist Engineer for programs or projects as the leading expert for the area of technology.
- Creates, develops and designs complex and difficult mechanisms, systems and equipment which require a broad knowledge of several fields and an extensive knowledge of own specialty.
- Leads and Directs design teams to determine the qualification and manufacturability of new technologies. May function as organization spokesperson on advanced projects or programs as the engineering expert or authority.
- Determines and pursues courses of action necessary to obtain desired results. May lead R&D project or program team.
- Develops and maintains plans, schedules and budgets for assigned projects.
- Prepares for periodic management reviews as required to give management visibility on the status and progress of assigned projects. Prepares theoretical studies of involved technical subjects that find wide application to design problems or that are required where previous methods and techniques have not produced satisfactory results.
- Studies the basic design ideas and methods of approach proposed by other engineering personnel: consults available technical data, analyzes previous design, utilizes specialized knowledge, and proposes improvements or modifications to the basic design ideas and layouts which would be more effective and involve less risk.
- Confers with Sr. Management, engineering personnel and customer representatives to assure proper consideration of customer requirements. Collaborates with other engineers in order to assure proper compromise on the best theoretical design in the interest of basic and practical considerations.
- Develops methods and techniques to be used for standardization of approach to specific design problems. Prepares technical descriptions of basic designs, and engineering estimates for inclusion in bids and proposals or presentations to customers.
- Represents the organization as a prime technical contact on contracts, projects or products.
- Analyzes engineering plans and projects to establish operating data and conducts experimental tests; analyzes proposals and related technical data to develop design alternatives.
- Plans design layouts in order to study the operation, select major components, assure conformance to functional and operating requirements, and determine the optimum location and arrangement from an engineering, manufacturing and maintainability standpoint.
- Investigates problem areas and initiates corrective measures relating to the interpretation of technical data and the functioning of equipment during prototype construction or manufacturing phases and field installation.
- Prepares progress reports relating to assignments as required. Confers with vendors to discuss physical and performance characteristics of proposed parts, components, and equipment for application to assigned equipment. Prepares specifications and design parameters for equipment to be designed and/or built by subcontractors.
- Maintains technical competence and state-of-the-art expertise in areas of technical specialization. This is accomplished by reviewing technical publications and books, attending technical seminars and Company training, and taking academic courses.
- Maintains engineering notebooks in accordance with established policy and procedures. Keeps abreast of the state-of-the-art by reading technical journals and publications.
Responsibility and Authority:
An independent contributor or project manager or engineering lead. May function as organization spokesperson on advanced projects or programs. Exercises considerable latitude in determining methods and approach to engineering and job responsibilities. Works under consultative direction toward long range goals and objectives.

Supervisory Responsibility:

Spending authority or authorization is limited to the job's scope and or project responsibilities.
Contact Responsibility (internal or external)
Interacts with external customers at all levels and interacts with Sr. Management, and internal personnel. Is a representative of the organization as a prime technical contact to multiple departments and site locations across the company.
Experience Requirements:
MS degree(EE, CS or CE)with 12+ years work experience, or a PhD with 10+ years of relevant experience with at least 4 years in security subsystem development. Experience with NSA Certification (FSRS or UIC and FDSA analyses) and/or IATF/DoD 8500/CJCS 6510 IA series w/ DITSCAP/DIACAP certification and/or HAIPE and/or commercial security standards requirements is required. Experience in Digital and/or Signal Processing hardware development is required. Experience in space systems is a big plus. Familiarity with ad-hoc networking protocols is also a plus. Must have an active Security Clearance, Advanced clearance desirable (Must, at least, be eligible for advanced clearances).
Security Clearance:
This position may require the passing of both a background investigation and polygraph to achieve a variety of compartmented national security clearances. The individual holding this position must be a U. S. Citizen.
