AVP/ Director/Domain Development Manager

Job Location: Denver, CO

Salary range
175K to 225K plus strong bonus and incentives

General Description:

Manages a development domain of 50-75 software engineers, organized in few development teams lead by software development managers. Work involves technical leadership, project and people management:
  • Management of development of Customer Care and Self Care areas (Front End) for large scale Converged Billing suite.
  • Providing technical guidance to product software development engineers. Ensuring architectural design, process and quality practices are followed.
  • Overseeing entire life cycle of software development processes in the domain. Deliver finished, high quality, and compelling software products.
  • Building and leading in-house software development groups, engaging contractors and 3rd party vendors when required.

Responsibilities:
  • Provide leadership to the software engineering team for your product area (domain).
  • Work closely with the Business Analysis and Architecture teams to define product direction. Work closely with product managers to ensure development meets or exceeds customer requirements. This includes ensuring that product designs are well document and communicated.
  • Provide decision making for software engineering and development, sensitive to the constraints and needs of the business.
  • Drive overall life cycle of software products in the domain.
  • Manage the group software engineering schedules
  • Monitor technology trends such as emerging standards for new technology opportunities
  • Develop and execute software engineering plans, and manage software engineering schedules and resource allocation and budget and managing off-shore development (if required).
  • Ensure adherence to software engineering processes, practices and operations to ensure reproducible development and high quality, while keeping costs under control.
  • Engage in hands-on, in-depth analysis, review and design of the software, including technical reviews.
  • Provide employee development and teambuilding. Provide employee coaching and mentoring. Manages a team of software engineers, providing feedback and training where necessary, conducting performance reviews, assisting with recruitment and selection and dealing with any issues within the team.

General Qualification Guidelines:
  • BS Computer Science/Engineering Required. MS preferred
  • 7 years +Software Architecture and Engineering required
  • 7 Years +Development and Project Management experience, including management of diverse, multi-locational development teams.
  • Experience mentoring and training others
  • Experience developing and delivering commercial/enterprise software. Customer Care and Information Management Systems, Web Self-Service Systems knowledge preferred.
  • Languages : Java, C++, SQL, J2EE
  • Databases: Oracle
  • Middleware: WebLogic, WebSphere
  • Systems: Unix, Linux, AIX, Windows
  • Knowledge of computer applications, data processing methods, and data processing equipment.
  • Knowledge and experience in implementation of Highly Available software / hardware solutions is preferred.
  • Excellent communication and influencing skills in English
