Director, Applications and Development

Job Location: Miami, FL

Job Description:

Salary range: 135K to 175K plus incentives.

Assists the CIO and IT department Directors to ensure Client’s systems remain competitive. Directs and manages all activity encompassing technical support of production systems, new applications development, 3rd party applications/services integration.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
All duties and responsibilities are to be performed in accordance with policies, procedures, guidelines, contractual commitments and governmental regulations.
  • Performs research on technology trends, analysis, design and development of advanced software applications with an emphasis on enterprise architectures.
  • Provides recommendations for vendor and product selections; including time and cost estimates for deployment.
  • Directs software developers toward the successful and timely completion of software development projects and implementations.
  • Directs and monitors quality assurance (Q/A) of product releases to ensure delivery of reliable, high quality products.
  • Directs accurate documentation of systems documentation.
  • Directs DBA activity.
  • Directs Integration activities.
  • Directs development projects and coordinates subsequent new software releases. Must demonstrate creativity and assertiveness to deliver successful products that meet User requirements, market trends and establish solutions recognized as industry norms.
  • Develops, maintains and monitors procedures for identifying and correcting application errors. Coordinates all programming corrections into future releases of products.
  • Remains abreast and evaluates new technologies as they relate to development projects. Meets with vendors and negotiates pricing.
  • Performs recruitment and provides training of personnel. Motivates personnel to meet deadlines. Provides assistance to other IT functional areas as necessary.
  • Assists in the preparation of departmental budgets and allocation of funds based upon reviews of department estimates/recommendations, familiarity with operating procedures and cost/revenue projections.
  • Performs and assumes other duties and responsibilities as may be required.
  • Creates a model that supports the organization's mission and values based on an internal and external needs assessment.
  • Monitors the internal/external environment and identifies opportunities to fulfill the corporate strategy.
  • Sets priorities for planning activities for assigned unit.
  • Serves as strategic liaison for key organizational initiatives between business units and their customers, both internal and external.
  • Assesses current models of business operations and develops appropriate new models as needed.
  • Participates in policy development.

QUALIFICATIONS
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

Experience:
  • Five to ten years experience in applications development.
  • Experience with client server technology, internet technologies, Microsoft Windows, UNIX, XML, Enterprise Application Integrators, relational databases (preferably Sybase and SQL Server), personal computers and networks.
  • Administrative skills including personnel skills, budgeting, planning, and time management.
  • Ability to work on various assignments simultaneously.
  • Ability to communicate tactfully, verbally and in writing with department heads, managers, coworkers and vendors to resolve problems and negotiate resolutions
  • Working knowledge of computers, internet access, and the ability to navigate within an automated systems as well as a variety of software packages such as Outlook, Excel and Word.

Education:
Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field from an accredited college or university or the international equivalent preferred. MBA/MA in computer science preferred.
