Application Engineer (Business Intelligence)

Job Location: Appleton, WI

Position Summary:
This position falls within the Application Engineer job family in the IT job family framework. The position will be staffed as an Application Engineer. The specific role assignment for this position will be as a Business Intelligence Application Engineer in the Architecture Engineering Utilities Services department.
Architecture, Engineering & Utility Services establishes a reference architecture and migration strategy for all three architectural layers -- informational, application, and infrastructure.
AEUS builds enterprise architectural perspectives and governance into all processes and practices, and creates repeatable processes for discovery, incubation, and roll-out of new, value-creating technologies.

Position Description:
This role of Business Intelligence Application Engineer requires significant expertise in all facets of the successful implementation of Business Intelligence/Data Warehouse solutions. The successful candidate must possess in-depth technical expertise in all aspects of the solution design and implementation, including requirements definition, data acquisition processes, data modeling, process automation, escalation procedures, construction and deployment. A thorough understanding of the capabilities of related tools and technologies is essential. The successful candidate must demonstrate a clear understanding of BI and Data Warehouse technologies and application to the business. Responsibilities include an emphasis on the up-front life cycle(inception, planning, analysis, and design). A focus on development/coding and implementation of those components within advanced technical solutions will be required.

Position Roles/Responsibilities/Accountabilities:
- Proactively contribute to success of the DWH Project team, to design and implement cost-effective solutions through data and BI tool reporting solutions to support management and business users in reporting, analysis, and decision making
- Work collaboratively with the business, use established requirements management methodology and tools, to identify, verify and document business, functional and technical requirements to support development of technology and/or business-driven technology solutions to leverage BI
- Empower the customers to effectively use the information and BI tools for optimal decision making, through proactive business support and advisory services
- Design and implement business intelligence and reporting solutions to meet the information and reporting needs of management and business departments using SAS BI suite of products including SAS OLAP Cubes, Information maps, SAS Enterprise Guide and Web Reporting Studio
- Support development of a common web-based SAS Information Delivery portal to provide one-stop secured and reliable access to information in the corporate data warehouse
- Support development management dashboards and key performance indicators for decision support and exceptions management using SAS BI suite of products
- Work closely with business leaders, data modelers and data warehouse developers to ensure consistent and accurate reporting across the business
- Identify new hardware/software technologies to fit specialized business needs and configurations
- Builds prototypes and coordinates prototype reviews
- Direct the development and configuration of application components from conceptualization through stabilization using various computer platforms
- Implement application components by analyzing the current system environment, using technical tools and utilities, performing complex product customization, and developing implementation and verification procedures to ensure successful installations of systems hardware/software to enhance the existing BI infrastructure
- Provide support to production support service requests and perform routine maintenance and support activities
- Support BI change management controls and validation process to ensure consistent and accurate information and reports delivered to the customers
- Create and maintain documentation of operating procedures, application designs and user guides
- Support standard and customized BI training and support to empower the customers in using the information and BI tools
- Provide continuous ad-hoc customer support in information and reporting services
- Assist the team leader in mentoring and coaching team members
- Other assignments as required

Position Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree is highly desirable in Computer Science, MIS, Mathematics, Engineering, Business or area of functional responsibility preferred, or equivalent work experience
- 3 - 5 years work experience delivering BI application and programming experience within SAS, additional experience with Business Objects would be appealing.
- Strong experience in advanced BI functionality, including BI portal integration, BI metadata integration, dashboard, scorecard, workflow, OLAP, Security integration, and heat maps
- Strong experience with SDLC and project management principles.
- Ability to translate business needs into technical solutions through data analysis/design and reporting design.
- Must be able to work at both a conceptual and detail execution level.
- Must be a self-starter and able to work independently.
- Background in Information Systems with additional professional training in areas of primary function.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

- Must have broad experience in business or interacting with business organizations.
