Job Description:
CLINICAL ENGINEERING TECHNICIAN
SUMMARY:
Under the direct supervision of the Clinical Engineering Manager or Supervisor maintains and repairs all
clinical equipment in and associated with The Center in an efficient a manner as
possible so as to minimize downtime and reduce delay in patient care.
DUTIES:
Performs all duties within the scope of the hospital standards, policies and procedures while maintaining
departmental schedules. Assists other members of Clinical Engineering as specified by the Clinical
Engineering Manager or Supervisor when necessary.
Inspects, maintains and repairs all clinical equipment for The Center.
Responds to service requests from hospital staff in a timely manner.
Determine the need for maintenance or repair.
Maintain equipment service records in the equipment management database (AMM)
Determine corrective measures for repeated failures and report them to the Clinical Engineering
Manager or Supervisor.
Adheres to all regulatory requirements of pertinent regulatory agencies such as JCAHO, OSHA,
AAMI, and NFPA 99.
Calibrate Equipment/Preventive Maintenance
Performs preventive maintenance as scheduled by the Manager or Supervisor of Clinical
Engineering.
Keeps calibration/repair records as work orders in the equipment management database (AMM).
Assists in maintaining a safe and clean work environment: reporting equipment that is out of order to
the appropriate department heads, reporting other problems to the Clinical Engineering Manager.
Consistently utilizes principles of prevention and safety in daily work habits including principles of
body mechanics.

Responsible for service and operational excellence to ensure the delivery of quality services and/or
outcomes required to meet or exceed the expectations of those utilizing or impacted by the department.
Participation with such equipment as nursecall systems, PA systems, infusion pumps, physical therapy,
infant warmers, scales, thermometers, centrifuges and CSR equipment.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED:
Functions within a broad scope of established departmental policies and goals. Performs tasks assigned by
the Manager and/or Supervisor of Clinical Engineering.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each duty satisfactorily and be able
to demonstrate any knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients
serviced throughout the facility. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills

EDUCATION:
Bachelor Degree preferred, but High School diploma or equivalent plus a certificate in electronics with
three to five years of electro-mechanical training and electronic theory in a medical setting or equivalent.
Ability to utilize related test equipment such as voltmeters, ammeters, ohmmeter, and oscilloscopes. Must
possess basic computer skills for data entry. Ability to read, write and speak English.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Considerable physical effort at times. Lifts, carries, pushes, pulls medium/heavy equipment, object or
supplies during the workday. Works in extended or difficult positions for long periods of time. Exposure to
blood, body fluids, and infectious material on a regular basis. Moderate periods of time exposed to a CRT
screen. Ability to complete documentation, manipulate equipment (test and clinical). External and internal
applicants, as well as position incumbents who become disabled, must be able to perform the job functions
(listed within each job specific responsibility) either unaided or with assistance of a reasonable
