Job Description:
CODING APPLICATION ANALYST

Location: Leave your car behind and treat your senses to the wonders of a walk in Vermonts Autumn woods. Sure, the fall colors are spectacular. But to the folks who live here, fall is first and foremost about The Harvest. Vermonts second largest city is an eclectic mix of the old and the new. Rich in natural beauty and a wonderful history, the area also has a healthy economy and vibrant community. Downtown Rutland serves as the regional center for thousands of people, with many professional and service businesses in close proximity to great shopping and dining. Nestled in Vermonts Green Mountains, Rutland rests in a wide valley between the green Mountain range and the Taconics, in a natural north-south passage. Nearby mountains and lakes and bring thousands of tourists ski, hike, swim and enjoy the autumn foliage. Killington, Pico, Okemo, and Stratton offer some of the finest skiing in the Northeast, within minutes of downtown Rutland. The states second largest city is still a bustling municipal center. Rutland offers many transportation options. Route 4, one of Vermonts major east-west highways, and the Route 7 north-south artery, run through downtown. Amtrak rail service, daily flights at Rutland Airport, and a Vermont Transit bus terminal provide additional options for service from every direction.
Hospital: Founded over 100 years ago, this facility has grown from a 10-bed hospital with eight attending physicians into Vermonts second largest health care facility, with almost 200 beds and more than 120 physicians trained in 35 specialty areas. Providing preventive, diagnostic, acute and rehabilitative services, they serve portions of southern and central Vermont and communities in eastern New York State. The medical staff is supported by excellent nursing, high quality diagnostic and ancillary services and a broad array of sophisticated equipment, including Magnetic Resonance Imaging, a top-of-the-line linear accelerator, used in the treatment of cancer patients, and a diagnostic Cardiovascular and Angiographic Lab.
Job Description:

Reports to: Coding Manager

Primarily responsible for the implementation and support of the coding software applications.

Displays major competency in having:
a strong medical knowledge base and expertise in coding of professional services, facility charges, CPT-4 and ICD-9 coding structures.
analytical problem-solving with ability to work both independently and in a team setting.
appreciation for the details, is detail oriented and has the ability and tenacity to identify, log, track, and report problems/issues to a rapid resolution.
effective writing and speaking skills
IT abilities to learn and manage rapidly the coding systems, install updates and assist troubleshooting problems -good interaction skills to deal with staff in multiple departments and communicate effectively and persuasively.

Meets all Reimbursement Specialist II requirements/responsibilities.
Develops curriculum to support the coding system educational process that involves both the technology and people aspects of training.
Performs audits to assure the coding system checks and balances (edits)are used to code and bill accurately, completely and thoroughly.
Serves on the ACE Committee as the coding software expert.
Operationalizes (in conjunction with the Compliance Coder)new codes.
Writes and updates policies and procedures for step by step use of the coding system.
Acts as the liaison among software vendors, IS staff and coders.
Facilitates issue resolution and works to be proactive in identifying in advance potential issues.
Provides timely support and training for system functionality as it is designed, configured and implemented for coding applications and coordinates/provides orientation and ongoing training for the coding staff. Assures resources/tools are accurate and current, e.g., policies and procedures, books, etc.
Develops, updates, and communicates training information/resources for coding and documents all educational and training activities/efforts.
Provides coding system education for new and existing staff.
Provides support and training for applications that impact coding to include new applications, upgrades, conversions and enhancements.
Supports interface production, monitoring, testing and issue resolution.
Responsible for coding dictionaries and profiles.
Participates in the test planning and execution of the test plan.
Evaluates, tests and implements new coding applications, releases and fixes.
Implements changes to the software as appropriate through database management.
Performs system maintenance.
Supports query and report generation for coding system.
Provides back-up for Round-the-Clock system functionality.
Works with users to identify and define their needs and moves to meet those needs.
Performs related administrative/clerical duties.

Education:
Associates Degree with college level Anatomy and Physiology, medical terminology and procedural and diagnostic coding required. AHIMA certified coder or eligible.

Experience:
Three years medical record, coding and/or billing experience preferred. In-depth knowledge of coding methodologies. Reimbursement Specialist or Coder Coordinator experience coupled with Technology degree or experience preferred.

Salary: $24.26-35.42/hr
