JOB DESCRIPTION :

Summary:

Assembles tail, wing, fuselage, or other structural section of aircraft, space vehicles, and missiles from detail parts, subassemblies, and components, such as frames, bulkheads, doors, stabilizers, and landing gear, following blueprints and specifications. Uses hand tools, power tools, and measuring instruments.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
  • Positions and aligns subassemblies in jigs or fixtures, using measuring instruments, such as protractors and dividers, following blueprint station lines and index points.
  • Measures parts to determine specified tolerance.
  • Trims and files parts to fit, and verifies fitting tolerances, using measuring instruments, such as gauges and calipers.
  • Locates holes to be drilled in structural assembly for installation of parts and components, using jigs, templates, and measuring instruments.
  • Positions and aligns parts.
  • Drills, taps, reams, countersinks, holes in subassemblies, and bolts, rivets, or otherwise fastens detail parts into structural assembly, using hand tools and power tools.
  • Drills holes in structure and attaches brackets, hinges, braces, and clips to secure installations.
  • Laps and hones internal cylindrical surfaces.
  • Tests functional performance of assembly.
  • Cleans and lubricates parts and assemblies.
  • Marks identifying information on parts.

Qualifications:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Education/Experience:
One year certificate from college or technical school; or three to six months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Language Ability:
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

Math Ability:
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

Reasoning Ability:
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Computer Skills:
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Use of Labor Track and Legato Records Retention manufacturing software.

Certificates and Licenses:
A&P Mechanic License a plus.

Supervisory Responsibilities:
This job has no supervisory responsibilities.
