Field Fire Technician

Job Location: Broussard, LA

Department: Fire Services

Job Summary:
Responsible for undertaking field assignments to provide customer service in the areas of servicing and inspection of portable and semi-portable fire extinguishers, life saving equipment, fire detection systems, gas detection systems, foam systems, dry chemical systems, navigational aids, and gaseous suppression systems, and other duties involving the Fire Services Department at WSI Total Safety.

Job & Educational Requirements:

  • Able to undertake field assignments to provide customer service in the areas of servicing and inspection of the following categories of equipment: portable and semi-portable fire extinguishers, life saving equipment, fire detection systems, gas detection systems, foam systems, dry chemical systems, and gaseous suppression systems.
  • Be trained in Respiratory Protection and fully certified to wear respiratory breathing equipment if required by Regional Manager, Fire Services.
  • Acquire and maintain current, licenses and certification necessary to perform assigned responsibilities.
  • As directed by the Regional Manager, Fire Services be willing to be cross-trained in other disciplines such as inspection, service, and repair of respiratory equipment.
  • Able to rig-up and use a wide range of safety and rescue equipment including but not limited to winches, tripods, retractable lifelines, harnesses, and lanyards. (Subject to OJT Training)
  • Operate electronic safety and communications systems including portable gas monitors, hand-held radios, and other related equipment. (Subject to OJT Training)
  • Responsible for ensuring all documentation associated with assigned tasks is filled out accurately, completely, and turned in for proper invoicing and required copies provided to the customer upon servicing equipment.
  • Be knowledgeable of all regulatory standards pertaining to your assigned responsibilities; i.e., State, OSHA, and NFPA regulations, etc..
  • Maintains a high state of integrity and professionalism in carrying out the duties and responsibilities of this position.
  • Perform other tasks and duties as assigned by the Regional Manager, Fire Services.
  • Minimum of a High School Diploma or GED equivalent or 2 or more years fire systems field level experience in the fire protection, petrochemical, or oil refinery related industry.
  • Complete a minimum of six weeks in the Total Safety, Inc. Fire Services Department and satisfactory completion of basic on the job training requirements. (OJT)
  • Portable and Fixed Fire Extinguisher Systems;
  • Life Saving and Navigational aid systems;
  • Fire Detection and Alarm Systems;
  • Fixed Gas Detection Systems;
  • Foam, Dry Chemical and Gaseous Fire Suppression Systems.
  • With certification, perform "Field Level" maintenance and repair, where necessary. Reassemble and test equipment in accordance with manufacturer's specifications.
  • Responsible for ensuring all documentation associated with assigned tasks is filled out accurately, completely, and turned in for proper billing & invoicing and required copies provided to the customer upon servicing of equipment. This includes all inspection documents, job costs billable expenses, time sheets, and per diem requests.
Education:

  • Required: High School Graduate or GED equivalent.
  • Preferred: Two or more years of college.

Experience:
  • Two or more years fire systems experience in the protection, petrochemical, or oil refinery related industry.

Certifications/Licensing:
* Have or obtain State Fire Marshal "B" License within 3 months of hire date
* Have or obtain State Fire Marshal "A" License within 9 months of hire date
* Have or obtain State Fire Marshal "Alarm" License within 1 year of hire date
* Respiratory Fit Tested

Authority:
  • The Fire Services Field Technician is delegated with the authority to make decisions and take actions required to satisfy the responsibilities of the position. Included with this authority is accountability for both actions taken and actions not taken.
  • Enforcement and/or implementation of company policies and procedures as they pertain to service center functions, personnel, and other responsibilities.

  • The job activities will require the employee to work in a shop/warehouse environment and/or at customer job site locations.
  • On an as need basis, the employee may be assigned to support field services on an offshore drilling rig.
  • Field Technician must be cross-trained in other disciplines such as inspection, service, and repair of respiratory equipment.

Compensation/Benefits:
Salary is commensurate with experience, with a minimum of $10.00 per hour. As a non-exempt position, overtime of time and one-half the normal hourly rate will be paid for hours worked in excess of 40 in any given work week.
