HOLE WATCH / FIRE WATCH - CONFINED SPACE / SAFETY ATTENDANT

JOB SUMMARY:

SSP (Specialized Safety Personnel), a Total Safety Company, is currently seeking Hole Watch/Fire Watch Attendants to work a full time, temporary position, at specific client jobs in different industrial plants, oil & gas refineries, chemical plants, power plants, etc., on a project by project basis.

The Hole Watch/Fire Watch attendant, while assigned to jobs on land and on off-shore drilling rigs, platforms, inland barges, oil & gas refineries, and/or other chemical refineries, will be working in confined spaces and be on fire watch. Hole watch and fire watch will consist of watching welders, electricians, machinists, etc., working inside or outside confined spaces. Attendants will constantly scrutinize a prescribed area of concern as the main job duty.

The attendant will keep meticulous records of any suspicious or potentially hazardous conditions, activating appropriate alarms and promptly contacting emergency response personnel as necessary. A hole watch/fire watch uses phone, email and wireless communication devices to share concerns and information with associates as well as people at high-risk locations.

A Hole Watch/Fire Watch attendant may be required to initiate JSAs, hot-work permits, and/or confined space entry permits. Attendants will document daily & weekly reports as directed. Hole watch and fire watch will consist of watching welders, electricians, machinists, etc., working outside or inside confined spaces.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

High School diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Actual drilling rig experience a definite plus.

Experience inside oil & gas or other chemical refineries, a definite plus.

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE and ABILITIES:

Excellent vision is essential for the job. Attention to detail observed through binoculars and closed-circuit cameras and monitoring remote alarm and security systems is a required skill. The attendant needs clear communication abilities to inform the attendant who takes over the next shift of any abnormalities or concerns that need close observation.

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance Instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS:

TWIC Card

Current drivers license from state of residence and proof of individual vehicle insurance insured to a minimum of the state of residence requirements. Must have clean driving record to ensure insurability under TSI insurance programs.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk and talk or hear. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Must occasionally climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee may occasionally be exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is high (examples: plant/refinery equipment, heavy personnel & vehicle traffic). Employee may be required to work on land and off-shore drilling rigs, platforms, and inland barges, as well as inside of oil and gas refineries, and/or other chemical refineries.
