Program Summary:
Youth Empowerment Program is designed to provide face to face psychosocial treatment groups that are self contained, goal directed groups with objectives that include the following: assist individuals in daily problem solving; improve social skills; provide leisure time training, promotes health and enhance personal relations. The Youth Empowerment Program will be meeting Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings at the Urban League Community Learning Center from 5:30 to 8:00 p.m.
Major duties and responsibilities:
• Transport children to and from the Learning Center from their Home or School.
• Ensure all children are fastened in seat belts before moving.
• Ensure all children are loaded and unloaded on the right side of the street.
• Ensure all children are delivered to the proper location.
• Walk bus back to the front to check for children prior to the end of each route.
• Obey all traffic regulations. Adhering to the posted speed limits, and adjust speed to compensate for adverse weather and road conditions.
• Utilize all the concepts of defensive driving training.
• Complete a vehicle safety checklist at the being of your shift daily.
• Check that all required paperwork is on the bus and up to date.
• Report any deficiencies in writing to the Sr. VP of Programs upon discovery.
• Ensure all paperwork is turned in daily.
• Keep updated copies of the emergency information for children who ride the bus.
• Help with housekeeping on the bus for safety and cleanliness picking up trash, sweeping, mopping and general cleaning of the bus or van daily or as needed.
• Ensure bus is locked while unattended.
• Keep the seatbelts in a neat orderly fashion when on one is in a seat to reduce the possibility.
• Maintain the attendance list of the bus checking each child as they board and depart the bus to ensure each child is accounted for.
• Personally check each child after they have been seated to either properly fastens the seat belt or to ensure they have done so themselves and that it properly latched and tightened.
• Determine that the adult taking custody of the child is on the emergency list as someone who is authorized to do so.
Competencies Required:
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills. Ability to develop a professional supportive relationship with participants that motivates them to succeed.
• Strong moral character, integrity, work ethic and a desire to help other succeed.
• Attention to detail and ability to handle paperwork in an accurate and timely manner.
• Good driving record, valid Kansas Drivers License.
Applicants with a history of 2 or more moving violations in 24 months or 3 or more in 36 months will not be eligible to apply for this position.
Education/Requirements:
Must be 18 and have a high school diploma or GED required. All individuals hired must have a valid, current state Kansas Drivers License and reliable transportation. Have a favorable background check prior to employment or assignment.
