Program Summary:
Youth Empowerment Program is designed to provide face to face psychosocial treatment groups that are self contained, goal directed groups with objectives that include the following: assist individuals in daily problem solving; improve social skills; provide leisure time training, promotes health and enhance personal relations. The Youth Empowerment Program will be meeting Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings at the Urban League Community Learning Center from 5:30 to 8:00 p.m.
Major duties and responsibilities:
• Assist the driver in case of emergency dealing with bus operations.
• Serve as a “Ground Guide” off the bus for the driver when the bus needs to be backed up or in tight turning situations
• Be the primary first aid provider in an injury situation
• Answer the cell phone or make outbound calls for the driver
• Provide for passenger safety in the areas of the transportation process.
• Meet the bus promptly for each assigned route.
• Determine the adult taking custody of the child is on the emergency list as someone who is authorized to do so.
• Personally check each child after they have been seated to either properly fastens the seat belt or to ensure they have done so themselves and that it properly latched and tightened.
• Supervise children through the use of positive behavior management techniques.
• At the end of each route walk the length of the interior of the bus to make sure no children are left on the bus
• Keep the seatbelts in a neat orderly fashion when no one is in a seat to reduce the possibilities of tripping
• Maintain the attendance list of the bus checking each child as they board and depart the bus to ensure each child is accounted for.
• Help with housekeeping on the bus for safety and cleanliness picking up trash, sweeping, mopping and general cleaning of the bus or as needed.
Competencies Required:
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills. Ability to develop a professional supportive relationship with participants that motivates them to succeed.
• Strong moral character, integrity, work ethic and a desire to help other succeed.
• Attention to detail and ability to handle paperwork in an accurate and timely manner.
• Good driving record, valid Kansas Drivers License.
Applicants with a history of 2 or more moving violations in 24 months or 3 or more in 36 months will not be eligible to apply for this position.
Education/Requirements:
Must be 18 and have a high school diploma or GED required. All individuals hired must have a favorable background check prior to employment or assignment.
