Job Summary
Work under the supervision of the Clinical Nurse Manager or Charge Nurse. The Registered Nurse II assesses, plans, implements, evaluates and supervises individual patient care on a nursing unit according to unit policies and procedures. Accepts responsibility for direction of co-workers in the implementation of care plans. May be required to work on other nursing units according to distribution of staff and patients. Performs other duties as assigned.
Employee will maintain confidentiality at all times.
Primary Job Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Completes nursing assessment of patient and documents appropriately into patient chart.
2. Oversight responsibility for staff (LPN & CNA) assigned for providing patient care.
3. Develops and reviews/revises a plan of care, including a discharge plan, based upon the assessment of patient's needs.
4. Implements medical and nursing orders per plan of care and documents appropriately.
5. Evaluates patient's response to care.
6. Demonstrates leadership/professional skills according to dept/unit Standards of Care.
7. Engages in patient/family teaching as appropriate.
8. Is an advocate for the hospital and it's customers.
9. Works collaboratively with physicians, coworkers, management and other departments.
10. Maintains a safe environment for patients, staff, physicians and guests.
11. Performs other duties as assigned, including clinical/technical skills as required by the specific department.
12. Collaborates with the Clinical Nurse Manager to assure the integration of the ANA's Scope & Standards of Practice, assuring that these standards are identified as the measurement criteria for nursing practice on the unit.
13. Employee will support and participate in relationship based care model.
14. Employee will support shared governance and participate when appropriate.
Job Specifications:
1. Education: Associate Degree, Diploma, or Bachelors in Nursing.
2. Licensure/Certification: RN Licensure in the State of Wyoming; maintains current CPR certification; and specialty certifications as required per department i.e. ACLS, NRS.
3. Experience: Minimum of 6 months (1040 hours) acute care experience as an RN.
4. Interpersonal Skills: Good communication skills with patients, families, supervisors, and co-workers.
5. Essential Technical/Motor Skills: Speaking clearly, fine motor skills, eye/hand coordination.
6. Essential Physical Requirements: Able to stand, sit or walk for long periods of time, able to lift/transfer/ carry (at least 50 lbs) using appropriate assistive devices.
7. Essential Mental Abilities: Ability to assess, evaluate, explain, teach, problem solve using critical thinking; and perform calculations.
8. Essential Sensory Requirements: Ability to see, hear, feel, smell and verbalize clearly.
9. Exposure to Hazards: Blood/Body fluid, sharps, hazardous materials, radiation exposure.
10. Age-Specific Care Criteria: The Registered Nurse II at United Medical Center is expected to provide nursing care to in patients, out patients, and home health patients of all ages as defined in the scope of service or their assigned unit. In order to assure patients and their families of maximal quality and efficacy in the provision of such care, the Nursing Division has defined age specific criteria for each departmental job description. The criteria will be used to determine appropriate patient assignment for the staff. The age groups of patients serviced at Cheyenne Regional Medical Center are:
Infant: Ages 0 – 3 years
Pediatric: Ages 4 – 12 years
Adolescent: Ages 13 – 20 years
Adult: Ages 21 – 64 years
Geriatric: Ages 65 + years
Essential knowledge and skills necessary to provide appropriate care to specific ages includes the ability to communicate, educate, and perform procedures appropriately for each age group.
